Changing Clutch Pedal height cuasing TOB to wear?
 

I recently went into the shop for 55k check up and they told me I have an issue with the throw out bearing (they say they hear noise while using the clutch, but I don't really hear it) and that I should get it fixed.


I also recently adjusted my clutch pedal travel so I can get better shifts on my clutch.


Is it possible that shortening the clutch pedal travel can effect TOB?

I say no. As long as you adjusted it so that fully disengagement can still be achieved, any further pedal travel should have no affect on anything.

If i adjust it too short the pedal does not come back all the way up when i let go of the clutch, does that mean it did not fully disengage?

It seems more likely that if it was adjusted too far that you would have a problem pushing in the clutch pedal enough to get the car out of and into gear because the clutch pedal would hit the firewall before depressing the clutch assembly enough. In that situation, it seems like the pedal should still come off the TOB when releasing the clutch, but maybe not.

No. Full disengagement means when you press the pedal all the way down in 1st gear, no power is transferred to rear wheels.. no clutch drag. Good clutch pedal height on brz is when it's just about level with brake pedal.

I mean if i let go of the clutch and it the pedal doesn't come all the way up does it still mean it's fully engaged? or could i be riding on the clutch or TOB?

Hyperian: if you are adjusting clutch pedal travel, i'd care more for ensuring for there to be no slight clutch drag when disengaged, as that will make gear engagement harder, and will extra wear clutch/synchros. Don't think that much on pedal adjustment with engaged clutch, most probably there will be more then few cm left for pedal to move up even after fully engaged, so don't adjust/align by pedal's top position (in relation to other pedals for example), rather align with extra care for no drag on disengaged clutch - adjust so that there is some 1.5-2cm of dead travel from fully pressed to clutch grab starting point.

doubt it. 60ish thousand miles is when they fail. Mine starting rattling around and making a whining noise at like 48k, and a good amount of that was probably straight up highway miles.

Yup, that's it. Exactly what I was trying to explain .. need to make sure it fully disengages. It does not matter how far the pedal comes up. Pretty sure you can't adjust in a way that will prevent it from fully engaging.
