Spring perch clearance concern after camber bolt install
Hi all,
I recently added negative camber on my otherwise stock Performance Pack suspension via SPC camber bolts in the bottom holes and OEM 14mm in the top. Am getting -2.4* and -2.0* in the front. I just bought 225 45R/17 GT Radial SX2s off of the internet. My wheels are Enkei VR5 17x8 +45mm. I didn’t realize spring perch clearance could be an issue at as narrow as 225 (my winter tires were also 225 45R/17 on these same rims, but that was before I got the front camber bolts). My tires are still on their way; could spring perch be an issue given my setup? I would like to have good clearance because this will be track set of tires/wheel. Thanks! |
I had a max of about -2.3* up front on 225/45/17's on 17x8 +45's before the clearance got too tight to go for any more. Every car is different so you might be fine at -2.4*, but might not.

Hate to piggyback off your thread, but I'm in a similar boat.
I'm running 18x8.5 +38 with 245/35/18 all season tires and TRD lowering springs with stock struts. Just received Eibach camber bolts in the mail. Hoping to get -1.7° in the front, but I'm worried about spring perch clearance. Seen several people on the forums say they went with more camber and had zero rubbing issues. |
I just threw on my winters, which are also 225 45R17 on the sam wheels (17x8 +45mm). Had about 4mm of clearance between the perch and the tire. Just ordered 3mm spacers off of Amazon just in case. Hopefully these SX2s aren't any fatter than the winter sottozeros...

I ended up with about 2-3mm of clearance when I test fit 17x8+45 wheels with 245/40/17 Fallen Azenis tires and camber bolts with as much negative camber as I could manage.
I'm guessing that you'll be ok on 225s, but obviously check to be safe. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |
Thanks! @Chuckable is 2-3 mm of clearance safe enough to track with?

I'd shoot for 6mm min. Mine were that close and on a cold tire they would rub a bit if I wasn't careful.

I had about 3mm for dozens of lapping days and zero signs of rubbing on the perch.
