200 miles and threw a code!!!!

So, i was parked idling and in neutral. the rpm's dropped to 200-300 and the car shook and felt like it wanted to die. the rpm's shot up to over 1000k.

the veichle did this three times. On the third time, the CEL came on. The vehcicle began to idle fine as if nothing happen. The CEL stayed on. :mad0259:

Good thing i was in front of the garage and i ran the code. P0017 and P0017pd. Cam shaft sensor bank B.

Looks like i will be spending my friday at the dealership instead of the race track!

Ill keep everyone updated

Uh oh... Not a good feeling. Hope it's not as big of an issue as it sounds.

Keep us updated. Last guy that had this issue (I think is was a cam sensor issue) they flew techs from Japan over and they attempted to fix it. He later suffered complete engine failure. Not to scare you or anything but the community is interested in staying up to date on this issue.

What transmission you got?
Good luck and keep us up to date!

Pscylo 08-03-2012 03:33 AM

This isn't the first one that has thrown this code early in the break in.

Sigh-on-Rice 08-03-2012 04:02 AM

That sucks. I hope everything turns out ok.

Subscribed. I'm curious how this turns out as reading the other guys "Cam shaft sensor" issue sounded like a nightmare for the dealer (and the owner).

He also got a new car out of it, and a ton of freebies, as well as a lowered apr. It's like he hit the lottery.

It sounds like is a cam/engine speed sensor problem, which I had experienced it similarily to my current VW 1.8T engine 1/2 years ago. If this is really the root of the problem that you are having, don't worry, it is not the end of the day because it is a easy fix, and of course, it is still under warranty, just lets dealer to determine what is actual cause of the problem.

I wouldn't be surprised if the other car had an oil pressure/pump issue, especially since the engine failed. Yours may as well. The camshaft movement is controlled by oil pressure. If you don't have enough the camshaft will not move properly, as well as cause other damage.

Why would a car with 200 miles be going to the race track? Spectate?
