I think the wear will be minimal when cold. I used to run XP10's year round. See my comments at Post #6 here:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12769 The black marks on the wheels that were not easily removable with my XP10's did not cause any corrosion to the painted aluminum wheels and the buildup was not the excessive 1mm that you saw with your Hawk Blues. I think that the Carbotech compounds are MUCH less damaging to wheels that the Hawk Blue-Black series compounds. Hawk Blues are know rotor eaters; the Carbotech XP8's should be much nicer. If you have access to a track, you can break in the pads there following the Carbotech procedure. If not, it worked for me with the XP10's to just drive on the streets (city driving) for about 300 miles without ANY really hard braking. The idea with the city break-in is to never have the pads really heat up. |
