Lug Nuts
 

Hey everyone. There seems to be a lot of options out there for lug nuts. I am mainly looking for a black set, open ended is ok. Right now they will be used on the OEM studs. Any recomendations would be awesome (car will be used on track a few times a year if that makes a difference).

I see you're in PA, do you live in an area where there's a lot of road salt? If so, I'd be wary of the open ended lugs. Aluminum lugs also will cause significant corrosion on the boltsa in my experience.

I have had a bunch of different lug nuts now over 7 years.

I'd suggest Gorilla lug nuts for someone on a budget.

Do not get cheap (like $20 shipped) aluminum nuts. I did, and threw them away after a few months. The anodizing faded right away. Also, GodSpeed??? What was I thinking. Garbage.

Open ended are great if you have extended studs.

Soooo many options, styles, colors, etc. Get some that accent your cars color scheme or look.

With some bias, I think these will be perfect for what you described you wanted.

you dont want to be running open lugs in the winter. i run some shitty closed ones on my winter tires. pa salt devastates the car

Thanks. This is not my daily and won't be driven when the roads are shitty and salty during the winter so thankfully not something I have to worry about.

I am running the 949 Racing aluminum lug nuts for a year on stock studs and have been happy with them.

For the greater audience:

Many of the inexpensive steel lugs on Amazon are fine for street use and racing however what you should look out for is paint - yup, some of these companies make fine lugnuts then ruin them by painting the threads which buggers things up when you go to use them . I bought these here:

I had to use old studs and some paint thinner to clean that up and then worked like a charm and are still working several races later. I love their design because I have Motegi Traklites which are a terribly designed wheel for lugnuts and these have the hex head stick out far enough that I don't need some special skinny-ass socket to put them on/off.

Been using Muteki SR48 lug nuts for years on my FRS and so far I've had 0 issues with oem studs. I've taken my wheels off at least a hundred times with these lugs. They do come in black.

We have also been using them on our shop FRS and have had 0 issues on track.

The motegi wheels are garbage outside of the forged ones. I bent one is two weeks over a bump I literally never noticed with the stock car.

But gorilla makes "small diameter tuner lug nuts" that fit these horrendous wheels just fine.

I have MR116s that I've had for about 8 years. No bends or damage outside of paint flaking from being old

I just sucked it up and went with 2-piece titanium Project KICS so I'd never have to think about lug nuts again. Not all of their stuff is as crazy expensive as the titanium ones but I like the 2-piece design because you don't scratch the shit out of your wheels and if the tip ever seizes to the wheel you can probably still get the rest of the lug nut off without snapping a stud. It's rare as hell but I've seized a Muteki SR48 onto a wheel face before because it got some water behind it during a rain event and it was not a fun experience getting it off...

I have used these on my old BRZ, also never had an issue. Was leaning this way but was just curious what else people liked.

Muteki, Gorilla, or McGuard. Closed end will be better.


I currently have open end Muteki (ARP extended studs so no other option) and the threads have gotten a bit dirty. I'm gonna try to clean them next time I have the wheels off but may need to replace them. Had them on for around 120k miles.
