Brakes making a jingling noise over bumps
Hey everyone,
Every time I drive over a bump, there is a jingle coming from by brakes. I know it's my brakes because if I tap the brake while going over bumps the noise goes away, but if the brakes aren't engaged, I get the noise again. Any idea? |
Take off the wheels and tap with a rubber mallet. Will probably find the pads are bouncing around. If it is something else be glad you looked.

You left out way too much info for us to give you a good answer?
What model twin? What brakes? Fixed caliper? Floating caliper? Fixed caliper brakes can suffer from pad knockback. This is pretty common, as subaru doesn't use anti-knockback springs in their fixed calipers. The Brembo's Subaru offers probably suffer from this as well. I don't have them so someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I do not think they have springs in them either. I have Subaru 4pot/2pot calipers and my right rear makes knocking/slapping sounds after a hard driving session. The noise goes away if I lightly tap/drag the brakes. Switching from reverse to forward or vice versa also causes the pads to clunk. This is just the nature of certain caliper types. No way to stop it really unless you use springs to apply a constant pressure to your pads. |
