Do we want a 'Best Drive Routes' thread?

Do we want to start a thread on great twisty drive routes around SoCal?

There are a bunch of obvious ones called out on many motorocycle touring sites, but there are also a bunch of lesser-known routes that are equally fun.

I am excluding Malibu Canyon Rd, Topanga Cyn Rd, and Kanaan Dune Rd because they are so heavily used and traffic-snarled most of the time. Granted they can be fun on a rare empty morning.

Some well known routes include:

  • Angeles Crest Hwy
  • Mulholland Drive ( still partly closed due to fires)
  • Decker Rd
  • Ortega Hwy / SR74
  • Add your own here....

The less well known ones include:

Ojai 33 HWY

Sure- Tail of the Dragon - google it. It's fantastic! In fact, so good that there are professional photographers along the way to take pictures of you and your car!

you're in california. you might be better off listing the bad roads, it'll be a shorter list!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has done this route but it's a nice long drive and is great in the summer because it's so much cooler in the mountains. traffic is not horrible either from when I have done it although this route does go through some small towns where I would advise to keep to the speed limit. It's a good mix of spirited driving and a nice drive. from the start at Cajon Junction it's about 2.5 hours till finish.

i generally make 1 pass during daylight hours for the pictures, and then avoid the area like the plague until after hours.

I apologize - I always click "New Posts". I should be more careful as to what specific part of the forum the posts come from. Mea Culpa...

If you've driven Mulholland on some days, you can dig out photos.

You have been deep archived.

Guess he wasn't up there 4/12/13 when I went through.

I love this drive too. I go from San Bernardino to Crestine. Traffic isn't too bad. I went to Big Bear using 330 I think it was this past weekend. This dude was doing 35 mph and wouldn't use the turnout to let people go first. Caused a huge traffic jam until there was a passing lane. I usually never have that problem on the sb to crestine road.

If anyone wants to go visit a national park, go to Sequoia National Park. Very fun roads! Once done with that, the next day go to Sequoia National Forest. More twisties! Make sure to stop at the waterfalls to hike too!
