The "one that got away" for me from this era is the Nissan Mid4. I wanted one of those so bad I could taste it. I completely swore off Nissan when they decided to not produce it.

Something like this might be in my near future (I'd give up my 86):

Back in 1957, this was the car I lusted after. Yep, it could dust off any production Ford or Chevy and even gave the mighty Chrysler 300B a run for it's money. Anyone remember this forerunner to the pony cars?

Nice wish list, couldn't argue with any of them. I would add the Opel GT to the list, one of my teenage lusts. A buddy's Dad owned a garage and had one parked out back but I couldn't convince him to sell it to me.

I got to drive a 73 for a week when I was in Germany. It was a blast but at around 100hp makes the FRS look like a rocket!

I was always interested in the 1st gen Impulse, as it was just rear wheel drive, though still with 140bhp turbo-4, Lotus-tuned suspension, and Giugiaro styling. It reminded me of what a RWD VW Scirocco might have been...

I was about 12 when I first saw the one I discussed, and was completely enamored with the manual flip-over headlights. Every time I went the garage I would have to sit in it an flip them over a couple of times.

While we are talking about retro + the coolest junky cars around:

i'll never understand why the 'classic' radio stations play up to the 80's, but ignore the 90's, even though the 90's are now older than when they started playing 80's songs as 'classics'.

That's because 90's music is all contemporary rock stations play. No one likes the modern music.

I so want one of these in blue. Almost chose that instead of the BRZ.

These were so large inside, a friend had one and I fit in it easily. But supposedly what really killed them off was the Corvette people didn't like that the new generation was too good. They supposedly were playing with a twin turbo Fiero that was making the modern at that time Corvette look awful in every way.

Coolest car until you are stranded on the side of the road waiting for a tow! I saw a poor guy with his Esprit dead on the road right across from a school. Hundreds of kids and parents were snapping pictures with their cellphone. The guy must feel like hiding under the car.

At the end of the day time itself is the only thing you really can't afford.

Worth it. The Datsun Zs have a look that can't be matched on the same budget. It's like a working man's Opel GT/Toyota 2000GT/Shelby Daytona/250GTO

If I could own a classic car right now, that's what it would be, hands down.

Funny you mention that. There's a roller a couple of miles from me listed on Facebook Marketplace for $1300 that had caught my attention. No engine or transmission. It would make a fantastic start for a modern drive train swap.

Golden Hawk. Beautiful car. The Studebakers were ahead of their time.

That reminds me of something I forgot from my earlier list. One car that has been mostly forgotten was the Jeep Wagoneer's odd Studebaker cousin, the Wagonaire. Both station wagons were designed by Brooks Stevens.

http://ebaymotorsblog.com/motors/blo...-front-800.jpg

In 2004 GM marketed the Envoy as having the "first ever sliding roof!" They were wrong. Studebaker did it in 1963.

I've had a couple of chances now to buy one of these, but they both came at inopportune times when I needed my money elsewhere. One day, maybe.
