Question for owners of catless cars

When you guys refuel, do you smell fumes for a minute or two when leaving the station?

I've been catless/tuned for a few years now, and I've noticed that after refueling, doesn't even have to be a full tank, I get a gas smell in the cabin for a short period of time. It'll last for a mile or two and once cleared by dropping the windows it doesn't come back.

Any thoughts on this? Normal operation?

Watch where you step the next time you fill up. When you pick up the hose, there are drops of gas drip dripping everywhere and you could be stepping on mini puddles or even putting it on your shoes.

I'm going to pay close attention to everything at my next fillup. I only did just under 1/2 tank of 93 because I'm putting the car away for a few days. When I get back I'll burn it off, put a tank of e85 in it and see.....rather smell what happens.

If you are over filling or if the pump is leaking on the way out you could end up with fuel in your evap canister

No over filling, and I don't think the pump is leaking as it's stock and has never been touched but who knows. I have good fuel pressure, I know that much because it's been tested.

That actually happened to my father, at age 94. Shortly after that, my sister "borrowed" his car - and never returned it - ;)

my parents with their suburban, and a family friend with a dodge dakota had this happen with the exact same symptoms-- every fillup, there would be a gas smell inside.

both of them were an issue with the filler neck connection at the gas tank--so filling was when it would seep past. in those 2 situations, the seal had rotted out and needed replacement, in a car this new, it should be a misalignment.
