Electric motor noise under car

So I got home yesterday at 3pm. Parked the car in the garage. Around 930 pm I went into the garage which is quite silent. All of a sudden I start hearing what seems like an electric motor running. At first I thought it might be someone outside but the noise persisted. Searching around it was apparent that it was my car that was the source of the noise. I got on the floor and know that the noise was coming from the rear of the car. What could possibly be running on a cooled down not running for 6 1/2 hours car? It kind of reminded me of the self leveling motor for the rear suspension on a previous Cadillac I formerly owned. Anyone?

The car runs some sort of leak test every once in a while when idle long enough. Nothing to worry about, your car is doing what it should.

read your owner's manual.

Evap system self check:

Noise from under vehicle after turning off the engine

Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound
coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel
evaporation leakage check and, it does not indicate a malfunction.

It's spring time, that's the sound of a swarm of crickets during the mating season.

Huh. Never would have guessed that. And not to be a **** but why in the hell would I check my owners manual when I hear a noise? Okay it apparently is in there. But is there a section on TOB noise? So for someone to be "that guy" and mention the owners manual because I heard a strange noise. Get over yourself. Thanks to those who mentioned about the evap test

So you take delivery of a $30k car and don't read the owner's manual to understand the functions and features of the car?

TOB noise is abnormal and should be checked by a dealer or qualified mechanic. This noise is specifically mentioned in the manual and you're about the 500th person to ask this same question on these forums.

not a bad idea, though it seems that if you look into service schedules provided by dealerships, inspecting the clutch operation is part of 12k mile service, though its probably just a quick test to make sure its not making noise and is operating normally

every single person that has asked this question either 1) bought the car used and it is missing the owner's manual, or 2) has not read the owner's manual past the cover.

On the 2018 BRZ Owner's Manual it is on page 16, when I had my 2013 it was on a different section of the booklet.

I understand that cars are often times fun to "learn as you go" but the book provides a lot of useful information about the car...

I prefer getting under it, but I'm a contrarian.

Well now, Spuds, back-in-the-day, before the internet forums, we would hang out at a local garage and talk cars, and we had a way of dealing with cantankerous people - :eyebulge:
