Hard to believe but the "First 86" FR-S cars are already 8 years old.

I was at the Detroit NAIAS days after they announced the program. One of the cars was delivered to a local Toyota/Scion dealer in Ohio but the buyer rejected it and it sat on the lot for months. Scion had designated moneys for a big splash delivery event and the dealership ended up using the money for a dealership employees and family party at a local restaurant. :thumbdown:

I know I'm biased because I own one, but I think they've aged VERY well. At least the BRZ has. Clean, relatively simple lines almost always age better than complicated, angular, "futuristic" designs.

But I do agree that they have aged well. I still like seeing my FR-S in the parking lot.

Mine's five and a half years old now with 98K miles, lots of dings and scratches, curbed wheels and a dented bumper where a dipshit rear-ended me... And yesterday two different people still said "Nice car" to me while I was out and about.

I think part of the reason the car still feels "new" is that there still aren't that many of them, so there are still people noticing them for the first time. If they sold as well as a Camry, people would be saying, "Ho hum, that's been around for years now. When are they going to update it?"

My renter said, "Nice car! Scion FRS!" I said, "I've had it since 2013." I guess I never drove it there. She impressed me with her car knowledge. Too bad she's moving out.

I think another reason for this car's appearance holding up is the clear plastic used on the lighting. The covers don't seem to be clouding over the way older cars did. A Hyundai Tiburon or a Dodge Magnum looked old after two or three years because the headlight covers went opaque. My car's headlight covers are as clear as the day I bought it, making it seem to age more gracefully.

I think it will age well, if you look at something like a 240Z and how well that has aged considering it is 50 years old. I think 20 or 30 years from now the BRZ/86 look may become that iconic, like the 240Z.

Try cleaning it with toothpaste and a soft cloth.

My BRZ (2013) had hazed headlights after 3 years. It depends on ambient conditions. Don't assume your headlights aren't made of same plastic other vehicles are.

Time to put mine in storage if true.
