Alex Yoshioka's 2019 CWP BRZ

Hi ft86club forum members!

I have been a long time BMW E36 owner and have been active through out bimmerforums within the last 6-8 years.

Been driving my black 1994 325is ever since 2008 and never really looked into any other cars because of its turn key reliability with near 300k miles on the motor and chassis. In addition, the shear enjoyment of driving an analog car is something that can't be felt in most modern cars of today...

The car has gone through quite a few iterations from a stance setup to an aggressive street performance setup through out the years.

My philosophy for "building" a car is simplicity and never really over doing it.

I've always loved the OEM+ look for all cars and this is the direction that i will be going with this build as well.

I will be updating this thread frequently as time goes on and I hope some members could chime in help me out as this is a fresh chassis for me with little to no knowledge on what to expect so I would greatly appreciate some feedback!

I have ordered a few parts already for the car.

Fortune Auto Gen 7 500 Coilovers
Whiteline RCA + SPC Toe Arms

And a set of........

brand new set of Advan Racing TC3's in a 18x9.5 +45 for an unbelievable deal... so i had to jump on these.

With experience with the INDY500's on the previous car, i have decided that i would get the same tire but in a 255/35 square setup.

Should make for a fun project and will hopefully see some future track days as well in socal.

CHEERS! :party0030:

Nice another CWP.

How are you liking the brz so far compared to your E36?

feels very similar to be honest. both incredibly nimble chassis. BRZ obviously being a little bit more light. It can be thrown into corners with a bit more confidence. However, the the torque difference is quite apparent even in comparison to my 2.5L inline6 E36.

i can almost say that this is as close to a modern day version of the US Spec E36 chassis in a way.

Did you end up selling the E36?

they were surprisingly grippy on the E36 as well. can't wait to feel them out on a new chassis.

Nameless Muffled Track Pipe 2017+

Update: 6/20/19

This has just arrived to my house.

Nameless 2.5inch 5inch Muffled Track pipe for the 2017+

After searching for a dedicated single exit. I have decided to go with this setup over a traditional cat back as the current offerings did not really suit my style. All single exhaust cat backs were a canister style with a large 5 inch tip. I wanted a simple OE style tip that wouldn't draw too much attention in terms of the looks department. With a bit of research, what i have found is that they all seem to be a bit either too raspy or not as smooth sounding for the 2017 year models. I also sometimes question "JDM" exhaust systems as most companies in japan now are out sourcing their production and with recent shortage in supplies along with sub par welds, it isn't as high quality as the US standard currently.

TLDR, i went with a quality US brand that is built here & made to order, so i know that i am getting the utmost quality...

First Impressions

for reference loudness scale 10 being catless headers straight muffler to 1 being stock.

Cold start is pretty loud for what it is. That's pretty expected with any exhaust for the ZC6/ZN6 Chassis, which i would rate roughly around a 7.

Once the car warms up after a few seconds the exhaust becomes pretty quiet maybe just a slight +1 volume over stock which i would rate around a 2-3.

Once you start getting the car through the gears driving around the neighborhood the drone is quite noticeable around 2-3k rpm range 1st-3rd gear... but easily manageable to my standards, id roughly rate the city driving to be around a 5.

Went it comes to highway speeds cruising at around 72-75mph on a 2017+ car. The drone is pretty much non existent and pretty quiet. I can easily listen to my music on a low volume and can even comfortable talk to my passenger without having to raise my voice. loudness wise id give it a 3

As for the sound, its very deep and tame sounding. Just what i wanted from this. There is no rasp whatsoever, and you can definitely hear that smooth equal length tone coming from the new header design on the 2017 model (which i do prefer over the zenki models, where the older model exhaust had more of a UEL sound to it in comparison).

Overall, i am very pleased with this setup and this will be more go to daily driving setup for now until i decide i want to switch things up. I do have eyes on the EVS Tuning 70-SSP catback but that will come at a later date....

I also have an exhaust hole cover for the passenger side and that will be installed ASAP :]

Coilover + Wheels

Update 7/1/2019

Just got all of my necessary parts in friday afternoon and spent all night installing everything so i can get it ready for an alignment the following morning. All of the work was done myself besides the alignment.

Suspension / Wheels / Tires :

Fortune Auto 500 Gen 7 6k/7k
Whiteline RLCA, SPC Toe Arms

Advan TC3 18x9.5 +45 255/35/18 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 Square setup.
Project Kics R26 Gunmetal w/ locks (due to the nature of the offset, i figured having extended lugs would look kinda weird... and i was right. the R26 is the perfect length to fit within the wheels lug hole depth.)

No fender rolling. -2.4 Front Camber / -0.7 Rear Camber - 0 Front Toe 0.2 Rear Toe. Alginment done by Best Care Auto in Orange County.

No rubbing what so ever with this height and able to turn full lock to lock with no issues.

These pictures were right after the install, and the car has settled and lowered a bit in the rear to match the fronts. I like my cars low and aesthetically pleasing while still providing good performance all around. I will definitely get some better pictures soon!
