Coilover Clunk (Brand new)
 

Ok so I just installed my coilovers (not going to say which brand for fear this may just be a bad one and I dont want to slander their brand). Anyways I just installed them and I got this wicked clunking noise in the rear right mount. They are pillow ball rears and I tried using an impact gun on the upper shaft bolt but it didnt seem to change anything. Ive fully removed the coilover and inspected it for play and leaks but it seems 100% fine. Could this be something other than the pillowball mount making this noise?

I had this noise on the BC coilovers I had on my old car. It always did that, I hated it do much.

I'm going to take a shot in the dark and guess you paid less than 1000$ dollars for said coil overs

It only seems to be coming from one side though, so obviously somethings wrong with it

And list on them is over 2k

White86: Contact the manufacturer. If it's new, they should be able to offer you a replacement pillow bearing. Should do the trick.

Epson1: Wouldn't be to quick to jump to conclusions. We've had an Evo X in here with Ohlins DFV's with both front and rear pillow ball bearings that clunked louder then that.
It's even a common issue with Evo X front OEM upper mounts which are spherical bearing with rubber bushing around it.
Pillow ball bearings sometimes go bad. They are a wear and tear item.
The tolerances on the bearings are so tight then even a .1mm wear can lead to a loud clunk in a car.

Thanks, ya the manufacturer already said they would replace it. I'm gonna disassemble the top mount tonight and see what's up. Yea they're expensive coils but that doesn't really mean anything. I realize not everything can be perfect and shit happens and slips through the cracks. That's why this is a throwaway account because I want to give the manufacturer the benefit of the doubt

they warned us about upsetting the balance of this vehicle...jkjk

Do these have a helper spring on them? If not, did you check to make sure the pre-load was good on that one damper? It sounds like an upper mount to me, but trying to think of what else it may be.

Def bad pillowball, replace and should do the trick goodluck.

Did you remove the lower sway bar end link bolt from the control arm?

Thats because they are crap. I've installed a few of those and you need to put a ton of preload in the spring itself on the body. But that makes it ride like garbage.
