Won’t go into gear easily.

So a little background, I’ve had my clutch replaced, apparently it was slipping, I wouldn’t know, I was stationed in Japan while my father was taking care of my frs, so I bought a stage 2 clutch and one flywheel and told him to go get it replaced, now that I’m home as soon as I get in the car I realize first and second gear are really hard to shift into, could anyone help me out, I plan on fixing this myself now that I’m here. Any help would be appreciated please and thank you.

If you're using a stronger clutch with the stock shift fork it could cause it to fatigue and bend which would make it more difficult to get into gear.

I would have suggested you take it back to whoever installed the clutch and ask them to fix it.

However, since you want to DIY, I suggest you adjust the clutch.

i'm assuming you mean while the car is running. how about when the engine is off, once the syncro's line up, does it pop into gear easily then? i'm wondering if your dad might have used the syncro's more then he should have. probably thinking too hard though.

If it goes into third, fourth, and reverse ok, it's another case of sloppy top plate alignment.

I think you might be right, it goes into every other gear just perfect.

I bet if you lift the lockout ring, you'll find the first and second gear gates easily. :/

Absolutely! Sucks to be in the dark. See the link to all the [unofficial] service manuals in my sig line. Not my content but thrilled that it's available.

I've been told that some of it is not up to date but...

I should compare my method to the book.
  1. Loosen the top plate until it can be moved around with a little bit of resistance.
  2. Shift into first and find the middle of the gate.
  3. Holding the gearshift in position with one hand, butt the top plate against the foot of the lockout.
  4. Do the same in second gear.
  5. Tighten the screws just a touch.
  6. Check work and repeat if necessary
  7. Torque to spec.
There's no way you'll find that in a modern manual because it's not idiot proof.
