Overheating
Boosted brz engine temps started to rise today idk if its because of the ambient temps but it was fine until i turned the AC on. Didnt start to cool down till i parked it. Went as high as 75% mark on it probably higher if I didnt get home right away. Any suggestions or ideas as to what it might be?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3ba8ad2b0a.jpg

AC hotboxes the engine bay in a real bad way, even on stock. Pop the hood up with the AC on and you can pretty much feel the fans blowing hot air all over the bay. With a turbo it's probably not doing the radiator any favors. If there's nothing else wrong with your setup maybe vented hoods or a different radiator might be something worth looking into.

Has this happened before? Do you have an OBDII instrument to measure coolant temp? Is the system full of coolant? Is the coolant of the proper mix? Are the electric cooling fans working? (if not, check fuses) Is the radiator clear of any debris? The thermostat might be stuck? If the car was older, the radiator could be clogged up (needed flushing) If the car was even older, the radiator might have needed to be "rodded". Without actually knowing the temp, you don't know if you really have a issue.
That gauge could be reading 100°c or 105°c or 115°c. Get a proper temp gauge/reading for your oil and coolant. I would say, going off your OEM gauge, that it is fine though. OEM sweeping gauges are typically pretty average though. |

Unless you've been pissing in your reservoir there's no way anything's wrong with your radiator. Throwing away good money. Thermostats fail shut. Put it in a pot of water and measure temp while you heat it.
The temp gauge is bullshit. It goes to the middle and stays there until the engine is abnormally hot. Then it shoots up. |

OP, to clarify, get a large pan and put a couple of inches of cool water in it. Hang a candy thermometer into the water. Add three medium sized frogs. Turn up the heat until the water boils. Note the temperature that the thermostat opens (if it does). Well not sure what can be the issue(s)
Worse case blown head gasket(s) Bad radiator fan, or just not enough coolant Bad water pump? You can pressure test the radiator, and do a leak down test. That's all I got. |
