Has anyone been able to A/B a PP versus tS?
Hi all,
I have a '18 PP manual that I began tracking. I saw that my friends who started before me all eventually began adding chassis stiffening parts as well as big GT style wings. I was wondering if I could find a cheap, slightly used tS in the future, if it would be a good idea to swap out my ‘18PP with a ’18 tS (the extra red interior bling is tugging the heart strings of the dark, ricer part of my soul.) Has any track rats here been able to A/B the PP against the tS (or the new TRD 86)? Do the big carbon wing and splitter help stability on track at all? Thanks! |
Its oem aero, man. You're just comparing trim packages at this point, same chassis. Honestly I dont think either package is worth any more than a stock 86 or brz [emoji2369]

the only thing that matters is the 4.30 diff and the stock suspensions (maybe brembos)
but utlimately ^ is right, its just a wing and lip and some sti braces, that frankly can be had from the parts catalouge. I built a 2018 brz tS outta my 2015 frs and i wish i hgotten the brz in the first place. it was hard and expensive and timely |

Honestly it would be cheaper / easier in all likelihood to add the parts (or similar aftermarket) to your pp brz. The ts on the used market will be tough to find and likely command a premium.

BRZ with 17+ dampers/springs and 4.3 FD, with a cattless UEL/OFT tune, and old Azenis. The TS was a solid second or two faster out of the box. I'd be curious if he could close that gap with better tires, but he speaks a lot about the stability and confidence gained from the rear wing. |
I'd be extremely surprised if the tS was measurably faster if both came out of the showroom with the same tires.

Around a fast track, I wouldn't doubt a second or two gained with a decent wing. It would still be a good comparison. Over all unless you're hell bent on getting the Ts looks with a warranty, you could easily get your sport pack to run as fast or faster for much cheaper. |
This is a fact. Ill have a build profile up where i mechanically changed my 15 frs to a 18 TS including all the bracing and aero bits.
sadly it wont be a good comparison vs a PP, but should someday someone put out a video request of a stock PP vs a modded base vs a tS im sure i would rise to the call. really though my car isnt a good basis for comparison anymore since it is prepped for STX (ish) which means stuff was swapped out over a stock car. (like running V720 225's vs the stock tS' 215s?) |

Maybe. I don't see a second or two in that wing. But I'm in for the results if anybody wants to prove me wrong! |
TS owner here. I was able to get my car out on COTA recently and get some very "rough" times. I was in blue group (I put myself there since I was rusty and haven't been on a track in years) and was only allowed to pass on the straights. The only mods I have done to my car is a Nameless muffler delete and a Whiteline 22mm FSB, everything else is stock.
The "fastest" time I got was a 2:58, but I was stuck behind a bunch of trains in the turns. I know a high 2:4x - low 2:5x is easily possible when I can get a clean run in. As for the wing, the rear does feel more planted in the high speed turns and stable on the long straights. |
You also have extra bracing which would lend itself to a different feel.
where you on stock tires? |

I've A/B with the same tires on both cars.
The tS is minimally more stable, but virtually no performance increase, due to the sheer amount of WOT time spent in both cars. |
@SmoothIsSlow I have an 18 TS with about 2.5k miles that I’d consider selling. It’s a weekend car for me so I hardly drive it. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some new ones that haven’t sold yet.

get the tS. You get added "clout" with it ;)

I drove a tS on track this weekend, was basically stock but has Pilot Sports on it. Was a decent stock car, nothing impressive to make it any better than any other 86 cars. I'll take my modded '13 over it any day.
