Vendor Blackout

And yee moderators came down from the mountain and declared that thine shall be required a title to post and sell in said commercial classifieds. And it was good.

In all seriousness I'm glad they are doing this it'll help crack down on the sub par resellers and keep the good vendors.

FT-86 SpeedFactory 08-02-2012 12:15 AM

Me too. We're the first Official Sponsor. ;) w00t

OrbitalEllipses 08-02-2012 12:22 AM

"Premium" Vendor? What's so "Premium" about you, eh?

CircuitJerk 08-02-2012 12:24 AM

Agreed. But a bit scary when you've been following and have made recent purchases from these vendors. Yikes. Caveat emptor I guess :)
At least someone's got their stuff together..

As vendors register for sponsorship, they will be able to re-open their threads, at which point it will be viewable.

Calidrifter 08-02-2012 02:25 AM

Makes sense.

Also, will this allow Titan to come back early or will their month long ban stand?

terrypm 08-02-2012 10:56 AM

Does it cost $$ to become an "official" vendor?

Is this suppose to provide some sort of extra layer of protection to forum members who buy from these vendors?

Hachiroku 08-02-2012 11:09 AM

Yes, there is a fee.

The site does not guarantee or make representations as to the quality of the sponsors, nor provide any protection or guarantees in any commercial transactions conducted via the forum.

But, vendors who develop poor track records here will be subject to being removed as sponsors.

Forums like FT86 Club are another form of media to advertise on. Same as TV, Radio, or the paper, if you want to make money from advertising on it you need to pay. It costs money to produce these things, and in the case of FT86 Club, there are bandwidth and server fees to pay.

The nice thing about a forum is that vendors get a direct line of communication to their customers that isn't available through the other forms of media. Often sites like this have a much higher dollar return on investment than anything else. I don't think Grimmspeed's plate bracket group buy would have been even half as successful if they had tried to conduct it through a magazine.

I'm surprised this wasn't in place before now, to be honest.

Now FT86 club needs to come up with a way for members to donate. This is a good forum and I'd like to contribute.

Why was titan banned for a month?

Here's what happened.

The site owner talked with him directly about the rules, made sure he understood them, he said he did. Today he was allowed 3 bumps/replies in the classifieds, he made 15 in a VERY SHORT period.

So, he understood the rules and one day later breaks them x5.

So, he got temp banned. There was no reason to warn and the prior discussion served as a warning.

Pricing is also required in threads now.

Click here to see the current rules: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/announcement.php?f=45

If the vendors (and Titan was a major example of this) had been calm, created a single thread instead of a thread for every single part, and didn't post a ton of bumps (obvious ones or not) all day long those rules would have never been needed. I can't even tell you how many users complained about vendors doing this and it made the classifieds so cluttered I avoided going into them.

Now hopefully they'll be easier to read and easier to find stuff in them, and with pricing required will save a lot of time for members.
