The same things apply to small leaks as you mentioned for big ones.
If you can't find a leak there probably isn't any.

Edit: im not opposed to just getting a shop to do it but only if its because they have very specialized tools

This is kind of an extreme type of check to DIY, but this is likely what an automotive performance shop will do to check for exhaust leaks. As other people have said, if it's not obvious, don't even worry about it. You mentioned your concern was CO poisoning, but even if the exhaust is leaking a tiny bit, it's outside the cabin anyways. Very little of that CO, if any, will make it into the cabin, and certainly not enough to cause any problems under normal use (i.e. not sleeping in the car with the engine running).
