Quick header decision
 

I'm looking at headers and I live in AZ so ceramic coated headers are a basically a must. Anyways I've been looking at JDL ceramic coated unequal length headers but theyre a little pricey at $950. However, a local guy is selling his tomei headers for around $450 with only 5 months of use. So i was wondering should i just go with the tomei header and have it ceramic coated? A place near me does it for $100. Or just save money for the JDL's

I have the gruppe-s headers which are basically the Tomei. You can get it brand new for less than $600. I've had mine for 3 or more years without any issues whatsoever. The collector is beautiful if you care about that sorta thing. They aren't shiny anymore but that's from the fiberglass wrap I think. I never got em coated and I'm in similar weather as you (northern California where it's 105+ on average). I'm turbo charged without an oil cooler and I've never had heat issues from spirited driving or cruising around town. That's not to say it could use some help on the heat side. It gets to 230-240+ sometimes but doesn't seem to hurt the car in a noticeable way.

So in other words tl;dr, I'd recommend the Tomei or the gruppe-s. I wanted the jdl but the gruppe-s is good enough that I haven't replaced em.

Turbocharged with headers?

I grabbed the Tomei UEL headers, quality bit of kit.

As for coating, everyone around here, who do good jobs that is, wants $400 for internal and external coating.

I just ended up wrapping mine.

Shit job wrapping, but very effective at knocking out radiant heat. I believe more so than coating.

Ya, believe so. Turbo is near the battery (I have a smaller battery to accommodate turbo), FMIC, and "J' pipe off the turbo goes to Headers and to overpipe.

If you're not in a hurry you could wait for a used set of JDL headers to pop up. I just picked one up on facebook for $500, dropped them off for ceramic coating last week.
