OEM BRZ Brembo performance?
Hi Folks,
Coles notes: How are folks finding the newer OEM Brembo brake setup on the BRZ Sport-Tech RS for the occasional track day? I want to know if it's worth getting that and not upgrading brakes vs buying the more basic model and getting aftermarket brakes again. I used to own an FRS a few years ago and took it to many a track day, I found the stock brakes pretty underwhelming when at the track and eventually upgraded to a NEO Motorsports kit and man was it a good idea. I'm looking at buying another 86 (BRZ this time) because my current daily driver has issues at the track (it has a seat-belt pretensioner that kick in during heavy braking and high-g that starts to choke me out after a few corners..) Is the new OEM Brembo setup good enough or is it more for show (ignoring the stock pads). |
It works great on the track, with proper fluid and pads, go for it.

Thanks, so fade etc are no longer a problem? (Again acknowledging a lapping day, not a race).
I loved screaming into a corner with my NEO brakes and braking at the last second, sucking back all the lead more powerful cars had on me. |
I like them. As a $1200 upgrade option from the limited model, to me it was 100% worth it and a no brainer due to bigger brakes, Sach’s suspension and the wheels. The 2017 PP is my first car so I don’t have another car to reference from but the Brembo’s have saved me from some stupid drivers.
Although the stock PP pads do generate a decent amount of brake dust, I believe they’re worth it. If tracking, you should probably look for new pads and fluid though since that’s what a lot of people tend to change immediately for frequent track usage. I went into more detail on post #2 about sourcing a new BBK instead of the factory Brembo’s from the PP here:http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133255 In all honesty if you’re back on the market for a brz, I’d go PP without hesitation. Saves a lot of time and is plenty capable with the correct supporting mods. |
Never had them fade on me.

PP brakes are great. Did Project Mu fluid and Ferrodo DS2500 pads.
