Scraped REAL hard, swear I smell burning oil
So I was coming out the garage space I rent downtown for the first time today, and like an idiot, I went straight up. I scraped REALLY hard. Like, terrible sound.
After about 30 seconds of driving around, I'm pretty sure that I started to smell oil burning, so I circled around the block and went back into the garage to park. Once parked, I looked under the car to see if I could determine if there was a leak or something, but I didn't see any oil. It looks like the resonator on the front pipe I have may have been what scraped (see pictures), but I wouldn't expect that to smell like burning oil. It's sitting in the garage now, and I plan on periodically checking it to see if there's any oil leaks dripping down or gathering. I've attached some pictures. Would love to get some of your thoughts D: https://imgur.com/JLhCHr4 https://imgur.com/tyB1YDg https://imgur.com/fFZYmTo https://imgur.com/eNackY7 https://imgur.com/GuRXkbZ Edit : I don't know why the pictures aren't showing up, here's the links: https://imgur.com/JLhCHr4 https://imgur.com/tyB1YDg https://imgur.com/fFZYmTo https://imgur.com/eNackY7 https://imgur.com/GuRXkbZ |
Don't lower a low car?
Edit: Don't hang things lower than the lowest part? Glad I could be helpful. |
Well the pics don't work so????
I'm pretty sure you got a bit paranoid. That's all. |
Just some crap from the pavement burning off. No way you damaged anything with oil in it since it is a very specific low point that hit. You will be fine.

The links work if you click into them but they just don't show up in here until you do.
When you make a Imgur post you have to right click the image after you have it online and select "copy image address. Then when making a post in here select the "insert image" icon and then paste that link into the box. https://i.imgur.com/JLhCHr4.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/tyB1YDg.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/fFZYmTo.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/eNackY7.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/GuRXkbZ.jpg?1 |
Looks like a pic from Steamboy.

Yep, when part of the exhaust scrapes (in my case - the resonator in the mid pipe) it does sound like the whole underside has been gutted. I scrape the resonator on my car about one third of the time I back out of my driveway. No, I am not good at geometry when I am backing up - :bonk: As far as smelling oil, I'd guess that is in your head. The horrible sound caused your brain to envision a big gash in your oil pan. Just don't do that no more - :( humfrz |
