Dashboard Camera?

I just spent about 30 minutes reviewing dashcams on Amazon, but it seems that there are $30 units that can't capture license plate numbers when you are right behind the car... and then there are $250+ units that still get shaky reviews from people who have purchased them.

I'd like a dashcam that I can hardwire so that it is running whenever I am driving and will record to an SD card. It should recycle when the card gets filled and doesn't need to have a display. I basically want to use it to cover my butt or help out someone else if something bad happens. (I witnessed two collisions near me last week!)

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can you recommend a good, reliable dash cam that won't disappoint me for $100-$200?

There was a recent thread on this very topic, some of the better stuff came towards the end. I believe the Blackvue DR-400 got good reviews

Not sure it does much to prevent/avoid them, but at least there's evidence stored for sorting it out after the fact.

Thanks @ngabdala, I ordered one of those Pittasoft Blackvue DR400G-HD through Amazon for $260. Video reviews looked good and lately I have been seeing SO many bad drivers (and two collisions in the past week!) that I would like to be able to document some of them.

It works with the iPad and the Android. Not sure why you went with the 260 on Amazon since you can get them on ebay for 180 EDIT: Never mind they are no longer listed, they must have been knockoffs EDITEDIT: Here ya go link

Add $30 if you want a warranty (bad sign) and those are shipped from Korea. I'd rather go with Amazon for piece of mind. I'm tired of ordering stuff from Asia, waiting a month and then having it show up broken or moments-until-broken. :)

Nice bro. I'm ordering mine shortly. $181 ebay

Edit: I decided to do Amazon with free two-day shipping and pay the extra $60.

Yeah, I pulled the trigger before I knew the discounted eBay auction was there, but I've been getting a LOT of defective stuff on eBay lately so the Amazon purchase has piece of mind. I think that having this camera will be fun... both for the stupid stuff that other people do in front of me -- and the stupid stuff I do when no one else is around. :)

These look great picture wise. Do you think that if it was mounted like on the passenger head rest that the lens angle is wide enough to film driver actions during a trackday, as this is what I would want it for. Maybe if the passenger seat was put all the way back? Would be great if you could give it a go! Cheers
