I definitely have the rear deck issue. With the backseat down you can here the popping coming from the deck. Although when poking around in the trunk the deck seams solid. vOv

In my quoted post I was refering to taking apart the front dash to locate a different rattle btw. Sorry for the confusion.

Does anyone have a recomendation for the best way to contact Subaru on this?

Sigh-on-Rice 08-10-2012 05:04 PM

I would try and start with THIS.
I would use their form to submit instead of a verbal conversation over the phone because I get something in written.
I did so with Scion for mine.
But I don't know if this is the best way.

So when The dealership fixed it. How many miles did they put on your car while try to find out what it was?

Coultergeist 08-15-2012 02:24 PM

UNCONFIRMED FIX!

I took my car into the dealership with the OP's post and they admit that it is a 6inch portion of the weld.

They have told me they looked into it, fixed it, had a Toyota rep come look at it, and verified that the issue is gone!

Sadly, I'm in Germany at the moment, but will update on Saturday when I'm home.

Good news, I think!

I have the same issue. Additionally, one of the child seat retention things is buzzing like a mofo on the underside of the trunk. There's a bolt and a little clip on the underside of the trunk that appears to hold it in place. If I squeeze those together quite hard the buzzing will stop. I've used a zip tie to apply tension to them for the time being that reduces the noise substantially for the time being.

Have you taken a look at THIS?
Since the location you're describing sounds very similar to the pic on that post.

This started on my white out FRS at 200 miles. Currently at 460 miles and it still does it when in 3rd gear around 30-40mph.

Nice find! Yes, that's the area. That clip and the bolt/nut seemed to be the culprit. I'll have to try plugging that hole...

Yours might not be the same issue.
1) 200 miles is kind of early for this issue to start. I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's unlikely.
2) It makes the noise regardless of the vehicle speed or the gear it's in. I.e., it makes the noise even in neutral at 10 mph.

I don't know how your noise sound like, but if it's anything like vibration (rattling, buzzing, and etc.), then that noise is something else. If you can describe the noise (how it sounds like, how often it happens, where it sounds like is from, and etc.), then I might be able to help.

It's a rattle, like the rear window is buzzing on metal. Something is vibrating the metal of that cross member. Similar to when a license plate is only secured by two bolts and it's resonating. That's not my issue since I have paper plates still.

It sounds like it's coming from the bottom portion of the rear window. Again it only happens when there is high engine speed and low road speed.

I see. That definitely is not the noise for this thread.

It sounds very much like the other noise #4 in my original post. An easy/temporary fix will be the post #18 in that thread.

If that's not the case, then it could be the other noise #1 in my original post, which probably sounds more like a plastic rattling. To find out if that's the case, you could stuff a towel between the rear window and the 3rd brake light housing with some pressure.

If that's not the case, then the last thing I'd try is the other noise #5 in my original post. Some people said the noise from this sounds like metal instead of plastic, so it's possible your noise is this.

I had this same problem. took it to the dealer it was the left C pillar, and the door receiver control module that vibrates.

I was thinking what I have might be one of these things. THe only problem is that it doesn't happen until plus 80 mph. I have no idea what it is. Definitely sounds as though it's on the drivers side somewhere, more like it was in the front and a plastic thump. When I parked and looked under the car, I saw the head of a grasshopper sticking out of one the the drain holes in the front part of the plastic underbody. It appeared stuck but it's quite possible that was it. Needless to say its head and body are no longer stuck there. Haven't been able to take it out again. We'll see if that was it.

In the mean time, anyone else have similair noises? Like something bouncing off of plastic, the noise starting at over 80mph?
