Paint ripped off

1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, so I'm really mad over this. Going home on the interstate yesterday, maybe about 100 feet behind an 18 wheeler. Something flies up from underneath it and takes a chunk of paint off of my roof right above the windshield. I'm not used to fixing things like this so any advice is appreciated.

It's maybe 2-4mm across if that changes anything.

Thanks in advance.

They sell little paint matched pens if you just want to do a cheap fix. Otherwise, someone can sand the door paint down and re-spray / clearcoat it like nothing happened.

Get a Subaru paint pen. Works great.

You need to do clear coat for that too, right?

The OEM paint pens from a dealership should come with a base coat applicator on one end and a clear coat applicator on the other. There are also abrasive tips on the pen so that you can scrub off any oxidation / rust before applying the paint.

Edit: I've repaired ~6 chips about that size all over my car. They don't look 100% flat (I could probably do a bit of spot wetsanding and compounding to improve) but the average person won't notice them unless you point them out. It is indeed frustrating to get chips, but to me it's the cost of driving the car daily for fun and not treating it as a garage queen.

I tape off the chips on my car and spray paint them. Order any auto paint code here:

Yep, like said, I'd suggest you get a pen from the dealer. Clean the area with alcohol (to remove any old wax). Have the artistic member in your circle of friends or relatives, do the painting. Then, quit worrying about it, after all you can't see it from the drivers seat - ;)

Keep the pen, this probably won't be your last chip. - :sigh:

Sorry dude that's totaled.
Set it on fire, buy a new car. I recommend a new Civic Si or if you want more power the new Type R.

If you keep driving with that chip dent the windshield is going to come off and it will fall like a guillotine and chop off your **** and balls.

Get a paint pen and fix that. Fix it soon! The lower body has been well done to resist rust. The roof will rust if you breath on it heavy. I can’t get pictures right this second but I have rust spots along there that will make most people on here wake up screaming in the night. The dealer pen will work fine just don’t wait.

The colour isn’t the issue the huge paint bubbles create drag and slow me down.

Jesse36m3 05-02-2019 05:36 PM

My entire roof looks like that.

Grady 05-02-2019 07:42 PM

Looks like it is rusted already. Doubt it just happened. Possibly just noticed?

Anyway I would go here.

They can put it in any type of container you want to touch it up. If you do not have spray equipment they will put in aerosol cans. Little buffing afterwards good as new.

Am I the only one scrolling down and keep seeing this thread title as "pants ripped off"?
I guess I am just not used to seeing paint being described as getting "ripped off" and more of it getting chipped or flaked off. Or maybe I just subconsciously want
a thread about pants being ripped off? I mean when was the last time there was a thread in here about pants being ripped off any way?
