Some headunit questions.

So I'm not sure how this works. Bluetooth sounds absolutely awful on my 2017 Headunit but AUX sounds great.

Is the sound quality dictated by the speakers of the car or is it the headunit? I've done a few research but I seem to get conflicting answers.

I'm also looking for suggestions for a headunit that's around 250-375 that has steering wheel controls and can use the stock backup camera.

Thank you all.

Bluetooth will sound bad because the headunit only supports the low quality SBC codec. For better BT quality you need a headunit that supports AAC (iOS) or APT-X (Android).

I can highly recommend the Sony XAV-AX5000 if you have an iphone (AAC support and Carplay)

your headunit isn't the bottleneck here. the stock speakers/tweeters are pretty mediocre at best so even getting just a sub and removing the low frequencies from your speakers will improve the sound quite a bit. Either way, a Bluetooth connection is going to compress the quality of your audio hence why plugging into AUX will sound noticeably better.

..and yes, as long as you get the proper wiring harness you can retain the backup camera + steering wheel controls to the HU but be warned you do lose the stock microphone if that matters to you..

Agreed, just removing the lower frequencies from the stream dramatically helps the stock speakers, even without adding a sub. I set a 100Hz low pass filter on my headunit and it sounds less muddy and still surprisingly punchy.

OP mostly complained about the Bluetooth sound though, sounds like the speaker setup is good enough for his/her taste. Unfortunately there's no way to get better Bluetooth sound from the stock headunit.
