Koni Sport Yellow damper feedback
 

I'm interested in the Koni Sport Yellow adjustable dampers and would appreciate feedback from those having experienced them.
A few questions;
-can the adjustment range allow a soft / comfortable DD setting?
-any longevity issues? What is there lifespan?
-any comments positive or negative?
-would you do them again?

I've run Koni and Bilstein on the E36 and the NA Miata chassis. Koni is very nice for the adjustability. Bilstein seem to be a better quality, I'd honestly go with a dedicated coilover if you need dampening adjustments constantly.

I loved the Konis that I had, but think consistently I found the Bilsteins to be less bouncy, maybe partially because I wasn't constantly tampering with the dampening adjustments.

I had the Bilsteins on my E36 for about 87,000 miles, and they were still pretty good. Longest I've run konis was about 20k, which was on my Miata. I sold the car because I got sick of bottoming out. Really nothing bad to say about either - but the Konis are expensive and the paint chips easily on them.

Keep in mind, this experience is with two other platforms, and is from 10 years ago - they may have improved things, but really the issue with adjustability is just that - you may never be content, and you're more apt to stress yourself out changing things, than just accepting it and making the right choice initially.

Konis last a very long time under normal use. They also have a lifetime warranty.

My biggest complaint about konis is that they can't be revalved. Or rather, revalving options are very limited depending on which model of Koni you have. I doubt I would ever get konis again. I would rather run bilsteins and get them custom valved if I were tempted to get konis again. Unless I end up racing in ssc of course. Then I'd buy Konis again.

What are you trying to change about your car and what is your intended use for it?

I had 2 sets of koni inserts on my wrx.

The rebound could be adjusted quite soft and turned up beyond the point of usefulness for my spring rates of ~250lbs/inch.

The first set lasted ~100,000 miles and the 2nd set lasted~75,000 miles.

Get the full strut and not the insert. You lose bump travel with the insert. The valving isn't as refined as my rce ss1 coilovers. Certain impacts with the konis were harsh, I don't have that issue with my coilovers. Bilsteins weren't an option for my wrx. Id try the bilsteins just to be able to compare them as everyone seems to rave about them.
