MAX Spacer thickness for stock studs?
 
Hey guys, let me first let you know WHY I'm asking this. I am looking at a set of used OZ Superleggera's that are perfect, with tires, except that they are an ET60 offset. From my initial searching, I don't think that we have the thread length to fit 12mm of spacer.

Can anyone tell me what the maximum spacer thickness is that will fit, with FULL thread engagement between the nuts and studs?

3mm. If you want to run those wheels, upgrade to a set of lengthened and hardened studs.

At 12mm you should just go for a 15mm spacer and get a ichiba spacer that bolts to the car and then the wheel bolts to the spacer.

Use a Project KICS or H&R Trak+ spacer kit instead of Ichiba. Ichiba stuff is mediocre quality and the hardware they use is junk.

I would first recommend getting a wheel that fits without spacers. That being said we have used ichiba with no issues however Project Kicks and h&R are also great options.

I would bet that the "bolt-on" spacers are much weaker than slip on spacers. Especially at 15mm. There is not a whole lot of material holding that spacer to the hub... not to mention it's aluminum.

My advice? Save up for some wheels in 17x8 +35 and wrap the stock tires on them, if your trying to save a little money.

just buy proper wheels for your car, it will serve you much better in the long run than half-assing it to save a few bucks.

You must be high, or have never seen a spacer before.. I've ran 5mm up to 30mm on the front of my 240sx to clear different wheels and I've never broke anything. Personally a 60mm offset is huuggee and not recommend but go for it and get some bolt on spacers.

The thing I don't like about the bolt-on spacers is that you're then threading into aluminum. That just spells trouble to me, especially for track duty. The tires on these wheels are 235/40/17 Toyo RA-1's.

Thanks for the responses, folks. I think I'll have to pass, even though they're a great deal. I'll probably wait to get the right wheels.

Agree to disagree, but I'd rather have the studs that are holding on my wheels be pressed into a steel hub, not some cheapo aluminum jobby.

I know that many people, yourself included, have never had problems with them. There are also those that have. In my opinion, such a "mission-critical" part shouldn't be cheaped-out on. Cheap-out on an exhaust or intake, but not on what is keeping you from ending up flipped over in a ditch.

I've ran 225/40/18 nitto nt05s ALL SEASON on my formula D car and have had zero problems and I know of about 15 professional drivers who do the same. But your money. I wouldn't buy the wheels just cause of the goofy offset. I'm defending spacers is all.

So what you're saying is that even a 5mm slip on spacer like this would mean that the nuts would not be fully threaded onto the factory studs by 2mm?

5mm spacers should come with studs, for the reason that the stock ones are too short. Eibach 5mm spacer has always come with studs as have the other good names.

Reviving this bad boy again. Are we CONFIRMED that 3mm will be just fine? I do take my car out on mountain runs a lot.
