I just got a quote to fix my car... what do you think?
Do you think it's reasonable to fix my 2018 BRZ performance package??
What do you think about the price..? This quote for fixing my car 100% including airbag systems. Please help. https://imgur.com/a/vXSVrTK Please see : https://imgur.com/a/vXSVrTK |
Looks about right based on your damage
|
Holy shit that’s almost half way to a new one ! If possible I’d say just buy another one haha
|
That is right in the ball park for paying somebody to do it. In fact $45 an hour is pretty reasonable.
Oh and dud you don't need to make a new thread for every question. The continuity of sticking to one thread helps people give more informed comments. |
Price seems reasonable, particularly because your labor rate is so low.
I had a similar accident but not as bad ( no airbags ) https://www.ft86club.com/forums/show...0&postcount=15 http://i68.tinypic.com/2v8sdnn.jpg http://i65.tinypic.com/2wr2stw.jpg http://i66.tinypic.com/ok4qjp.jpg The frame straightening and radiator support cut out is costing you a lot as well as the headlights are about 1k each. For me I was lucky to fix my headlight with epoxy and it didn't leak. Hammer out the rad support to barely fit the hood. Air box was broken, bought a new OEM was like $175 Replaced hood latch but I think I didn't have to, needed to use washers to space it out to fit right Kept damaged bumper and passenger fender because they were bent and fit. new parts won't fit with bent rad support That's about it, drove for a year or so before I got rid of it. I went to 3 shops before I decided to fix it myself with a hammer. 1st, went twice wouldn't even give estimate because I wasn't using insurance. 2nd, won't give estimate without full tear down and putting on frame machine said most likely 10,000+ 3rd, gave me shit because I wasn't going through insurance. Said why do you want to spend 10k + out of pocket? Were you speeding? etc. |
I’m all for fixing stuff yourself. But body work with a hammer results in a car that looks like you did body work with a hammer.
I’d pony up, pay the $13k and sell that car. It’s never going to be the same again, they rarely are. Or scrap it out and walk away. Probably the same value if you have the means to get it done. |

You are not wrong. But my car was primarily for track and it obviously looked like I fixed it with a hammer. But from the driver seat on the track it didn't make a difference for me as it drove fine. I am just posting my experience for the peanut gallery, not everyone has the same goals with their "repairs". |
looking at the torn down photos and the estimate i would be willing to bet they're gonna hit you with some additional charges before the job is over.
probably going to hit you with some actually pull time if they set it up and measure it and find any kind of sway or mash, the interior needs to come out to put a control module in it, there is going to be programming for the airbag controls. I would look at that number and not be surprised when they hit you with additional at midway point of the repair. |
Blegh, total it. Ur gonna be driving around a car you know was seriously bashed up which is going to make you sad, then eventually ur going to sell it to some poor bastard that's going to get a poor example of an 86. Do yourself and the 86 communitu a favor, total it if you can.

Agree on the frame check but that's always going to be a possibility until they actually do it. Quote:

took another look and they don't have the steering wheel listed as a replacement item, in front airbag deployment the steering wheel must be replaced on these cars so they may hit you for that as well once fully taken apart.

We've never replaced them, just the bag and fixed the wiring but we aren't worried about our own cars liability.. |

Myairbags reset the module again and all was good in the world. I haven't seen any damaged wheels out of these yet, just the normal melted SRS plugs/wiring. Haven't even found one with a bad clockspring. |
