Supercharger and catch cans
Installing a Sprintex twin screw at the moment, but was wondering - catch can/s for this setup.
PCV side, crank case side, or both? Are both REQUIRED, or if not, which one should be prioritized? |
Catch cans are a "can of worms"....see what I did there.
First, do you require a catch can, or a oil air separator? Will you vent or plumb back? Will you plumb in a drain back or drain manually? Most catch cans are only good for VTA because they don't strip oil from the air, the only really catch bulk oil, if you are pushing bulk oil in a FA20 you are having major issues. Most "claimed" AOS that are advertised are rubbish and only strip a small amount of oil. A good AOS is going to cost you, their design will be around baffling, changes of direction and even media, like fuel foam or "steel wool scourers". Routing: try to replicate the OEM routing, but have a AOS plumbed in. These "look" good but I have no first hand experience https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109331 https://www.killerbmotorsport.net/ai...ator.html.html You would need to play with the Killer B to mount. I generally get them custom made, cost is typical but I get exactly what I want. Do lots of research on what is required to strip oil, heavy industries have been doing it successfully for years, look there for inspiration. |
Radium catch cans are pretty good quality, not super super expensive, also pretty looking and manage boost without problems... at least I use them because i recirculate everything since my hks sc kit is a draw through Maf and I prefer not to vent to atm
Usually one should look at lines and if they are dirty, maybe catch cans help.. anyway always good to have, at least that s my opinion |
Ive heard that N/A cars can get away just fine with just the PCV can, but the boosted cars can benefit from one on the breather line as well.
