Need help about the mechanical coverage!

So I bought my 86 2017 about 2 years ago and it now has around 33 000 miles! For what I know the Powertrain Coverage is 60 months/60,000 miles . The dealership sent me a letter that they suggested me to buy an additional coverage for $3000 over 6 years because my current plan will be expired in the next 3000 miles. My car engine starts to make some kind of noise from the passenger side and I really want to get it fixed. The manager didn't tell me if they can fix it for free. I think he was lying to me about the factory coverage. Can anyone specify about this?

Sounds like your typical extended warranty scam - just being sent out by the dealer. If it's actually a Toyota Manufacturer extended warranty I it may be worth it, but even then probably not.

Also, regardless of anything else you should get that issue trouble-shot before your actual warranty expires.

So the dealership has confirmed that there is an issue?

If you want them to cover anything you need to prove it exists so it can give them a reason to investigate.

If you think the manager is lying to you, you'd easily be able to escalate. You are clearly not telling us much of the story of giving us really any information on the sound you're hearing. You're also I the wrong section.

The extended warranty is from the dealer.Either pay $180/month or $3000+ one at time. When the car has an issue, they will replace it with new parts (brakes, baterry, etc) but I have to pay $100 deductible every time.

Yah definitely I will ask another manager from the dealer about the investigate. Thanks!

I'd suggest you take your car in to have it looked at (fixed if necessary, while under the basic warranty).

I'd also suggest you pass on the extended warranty.

What retard wrote that letter?

MuseChaser 04-10-2019 01:01 AM

Are you SURE that letter came from your actual dealership? The grammar and writing in general is very poor and unprofessional; it reads more like a phishing email rather than a legitimate sales pitch from an established franchised dealership. I'd take it to your dealership and ask them face to face if they sent it. If they did, find another dealership in the future.

LOL, that has to be the next-level of scam. Actual paper spam.

It's spam mail, probably sent by some mostly automated system. Looking at the fine print, the dealership made some sort of deal with that APC company which is probably the one that actually sent you the letter.

My guess is the dealership gives them information and a generic letter that they can spam out. In return, the dealership gets paid by APC (or whichever on of them does the paying) to fix your car when it breaks. There may also be some kickback money in there somewhere.

Again, this is just a guess based on the fine print. I don't actually know how these things go down.

It's a heavy handed solicitation for a third party warranty policy sold through your dealership shown by their use of the Toyota trademark. IMO stay away from many of those third party companies that wind up like Theranos.

You're still under the Toyota basic warranty coverage that includes free bumper to bumper diagnostics, parts, repairs, and some adjustments but doesn't cover normal wear items. All Toyota dealers are obligated to support you. If the dealer refuses to help, find another.

To see what's still covered, join this site and look around...
