Road racing events?

I just graduated and have most of the summer off while I wait for clearance to take the state exam before I can start working.

I am in NY and would like to get some track experience before I purchase a new car. I have a shitty auto eco box that I put coilovers, wheels, tires on that I wouldn't mind beating up to get some practice.

Thing is I have no idea how to find these types of events. I would prefer a road course type of event but I guess I'm open to autocross or whatever, I have no idea where to start for anything though.

Can you guys help me out?

www.motorsportreg.com is the place to find most HPDE's and organized track days. Also check individual race track websites and their calendars. Some tracks have open track days with no regulation or restriction [can be good or bad depending on car and experience]. Look for an HPDE with a bigger car club like BMWCCA or PCA.

Best of luck!

Trackdaze is running an event at NJMP's Thunderbolt circuit on June 30-July 1. TrackDaze runs a nice, laid back event with plenty of class room and seat time (4-5 30 minute sessions on track each day). $380 for two days, $235 (I think) for one. I'll be instructing at this event.

You have Monticello, Watkins Glen*, Lime Rock, and Pocono all within a short drive too. Check out NASA-NE for other events at those locations.

*I don't suggest WGI for a first event (but that is where I did mine).

And, yes...you can track an AT...as long as it passes tech.

For autocross look at autox4u.com for events in NJ and PA. North Jersey region runs at Giants Stadium...

I am definitely interested in things like this. Unfortunately I am away until June 4 but please post here or message me of future events. I will surely attend.

oops, read those date wrong. Yes I would definitely be interested in that. I'm looking at the site now. What exactly do I need to pass tech, my car has no mechanical problems that I'm aware of but I do have window tint.

There is a tech form you need to download the tech form (it's in the event packet)and either take your car and form to a shop for inspection, or if you know your car _very_well_ (you do all your own mechanical repairs/upgrades) then you can complete it yourself. This tech inspection covers basic safety items (brakes, fluids, seat belts, bushings, excessive rust) to ensure that your car won't try to kill someone while on track.

Window tint is not an issue with TrackDaze, but might be with other sanctioning bodies.

See full rules here.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
