Is there a high risk of hydrolocking with the Perrin Cold Air Intake?

I'm considering the Perrin CAI since it would for sure clear my Jackson oil cooler hosing and because its CARB so I don't have to reinstall the stock airbox for smog.

Is there a high risk of water getting into the Perrin CAI and causing hydrolock if I go through a puddle or if a semi-truck's water wake hits me during rain? I'm wondering because the Perrin CAI is closer to the bumper's vents than other CAIs or the stock airbox.

Also what is the maintenance interval for the Perrin CAI?

Yep.
Even a baby puddle or light rain will kill your engine if you install a cold air intake.

Da funk is wrong with you boy?!!
Stop giving California people a bad rap.
Are you new to cars? Please tell me your not an "engineer".

If a puddle comes half way up your doors don't drive through it. Otherwise all is fine.

You would need to submerge the filter in water. Don't do that.

The Perrin CAI filter sits in same location as stock snorkel does, right above crash bar. Any puddle you could drive through before with stock snorkel should be fine. To hydrolock an engine you need to suck in a lot of water, pretty much submerging your filter. A few drops splashing up will do nothing but cool your temps for you. So the next time a semi truck splashes you with water you should thank him for keeping your temps down.

If anything the stock set up is a higher risk for getting water since it would actually funnel it in if too deep.

Just don't drive into SF bay and you should be OK.

Just leave the stock one on, you're not going to see gains worth the money by swapping intakes. Combine that with having to pull the bumper to wash the filter and it's just not worth it IMO.

Typically you need to wash the filter once per year, more if you drive in really dusty areas.

NA + aftermarket CAI = Noise and less money in your pocket.

Consumers will consume

I always hope this isn’t true, but it always is.

So I assume from this (and the rest of my lurking here) the only “levels” of power gains / torque dip reduction that’s are CA legal on this car are:

1. Live with it

2. Just a tune (minor reduction in torque dip and single digit HP improvement)

3. Edlebrock Supercharger

4. Sell it, save an extra 15k and buy a Cayman
