wheel choices
 

Its about time to swap to summer tires and I was thinking about getting some new wheels to go with it. I'm on winter tires on oem wheels right now. Currently it's my DD, no tracking, stock power/suspension, just enjoying it on the streets. While I'm not racing or anything, I would like to avoid heavy wheels that would make the car slower than it already is.

I'd like to stick to wheel brands with a good reputation, no replicas. I'm not looking to spend Volk levels of money, but I'm willing to pay for better quality.

With that said, some of the choices I've narrowed down to are:
1.) BBS RF

Pro - forged, super light, seems like an oem fit.
Con - styling somewhat bland in 17" size, 18" is super expensive.

2.) Titan-7 TS5

Pro - forged, super stylish, light
Con - only comes in 18x9.5, maybe too wide for stock power?, probably would have to buy coils to fit

3.) RPF1

Pro - tried and true
Con - only looks good (imho) with flat face on 9-9.5" width (and same issues with ts5), too commonplace


Plan B - put summer tires on oem wheels, buy coilovers, save up for turbo kit and get wheels later
Plan C - buy a Cayman

Any thoughts or other wheel recommendations appreciated.

But I will be getting the Enkei Raijin 18x9.5. Very good price and look amazing on our platform. I run the 18x8 in the winter.

the titan 7 is already my pick, and on my future mod list, the close running was the bbs sr, but it had to be in 19, otherwise the spokes of the design in 17 or 18 look odd.

Hard pass on the RPF1. Not a very pretty wheel and so many people have it.

I think the titan 7 comes in 17*9. I went with tc105x because they are probably durable enough while still being oddly light and cheap enough. All while not being super played out.

I don't know, dude. If you actually get $1200 for that I will eat my hat and anybody else that has a hat that wants me to eat it.

Have you considered that the reason so many people have RPF1s is because it's the best solution to the "I need light wheels for summer tires without spending a lot" problem?

Also, I like how they look. Very functional, says I enjoy driving my car more than looking at it. Wait, that may be countering my point... :iono:

Hen3ry welcome to the frustrating world of picking wheels for your FRS.

You like aggressive styles which only come in big widths (9.5j) but you don't want to stick on that much rubber giving the car too much grip. There is always the option to stretch narrow tyres but not everyone is into that (I used to but not anymore). What is the max size you want to go? (mainly in terms of width)


Dadillac, if you look at the wheels that people tend to fit to this chassis you will see that they don't really reassemble the style of wheel you are selling, no disrespect but they are pretty hideous. Someone will buy them for sure but it may take a little time.

Aren't wheels more of a "light, cheap, durable. Pick two" Situation? I mean, there has got to be a reason that there are no other sub $1000 wheel under 16 lbs 17*9.

fatoni: but none of those three for rpf1 are extremes either, eg. forged wheels are usually even lighter and possibly stronger, OE or rally wheels are stronger, there are many cheaper wheels then rpf1.
Think of rpf1 as wheels with chosen relatively good overall compromise. Not lightest, not cheapest, not strongest. But overall what those are - made them such popular choice. Kosei wheels are even lighter and cheaper .. but too easy to bend. Forged wheels are lighter and as strong, but cost 2-3x what rpf1 do.

720 Form in equivalent size is lighter, cheaper and better looking(subjective) than the RPF1's. Similar for Konig as they have their new line of flow formed wheels which are competitive in price, weight and look better than RPF1's.

RPF1's are definitely not the best solution. Perhaps in the past, but not now.

This is kind of like saying that everyone has Nike's because they are the best solution to shoes, but that certainly isn't true.

Pick up a common 225 summer tire and have fun.

I love my 17x9 RPF1's, but I know a lot of people want to be 'different'
Skip the turbo kit and just buy the Cayman


Edit: I like Motegi's too, I think they have one or two 17x8's that'll work.
