Do I need to add more coolant?

Noticed my coolant level is at midway between max and min. Should I add more? If so, what type of coolant go get?

Nope. That's right where it should be.

Yep, if your engine was cold at that level, don't mess with it.

It's an expansion tank (see manual).

If you ever have to add coolant use only the Subaru Blue stuff. Or deionized or distilled water if it just is down a little.

The proper coolant is either the ready mix blue coolant from Toyota, or Subaru's ready mixed coolant.

Here's the deal man,

1. You could buy a gallon of the blue coolant for $40 at the dealership and only use about a cup. Then have it for summer when you'll need to add another half cup.

2. You can buy a gallon of distilled water for $1 and use a cup of it. Then you can have it for the summer when you'll need to add another half cup.

Either way you'll only need about a cup or two to fill up to the line.

Yep, fill to the "max" line if the system is hot. If the system is cold the level should be somewhere mid way between the lines.

Yes. If coolant level is at the middle you'll need like 1 to 1 1/2 cup of fluid. From the low level you'll need about 3 to 3 1/2 cups. Give or take a few.

Simple shit huh?

Quoted for emphasis, don't ever add to the coolant when it's not up to full operating temperature.

And because I've seen it done, please don't add coolant to a hot engine through the radiator cap.

Took nearly 8 months before his face looked good again.
