Scatalogical Humor in the family

There is record of Mozart's family engaging in it...

My daughter and son are in their mid-late Twenty's now...and it has been comforting that the awkward interactions of the Teen years has passed...recently my daughter made the observation "What is is about poop and this family?"

Examples:
This morning while sharing coffee with la Deanita I announced..."oop's Turd-dle time".
Wife sharing a poop emoji in the family iMessage chat.
While the son was home for Christmas..."Excuse me time to drop a two pound hammer"

Weird...normal...or just uncouth...

My family doesn't go for poop jokes but fart ones are always welcome so we are more of a flatulation focused family.

I kind of group the two...The Family Hypno are a flatulent crew...

My in-law family is just like this. Honestly it's nice to have an open minded family. My wife and I bought a bidet for our toilet (best thing ever) and our in-laws were surprisingly obsessed. They bought one after visiting, and now the whole family relies on them.

I think it's normal among goofy families. Nothing wrong with it, so long as it's not the topic at Koto Japanese Steakhouse during the hibachi performance

Every family has their inside joke things that would seem inappropriate to outsiders.

Don't even want to know what that would be in Georgia!

Ha! Well, now that you asked....

After our kids approached adult age, but two of three were still at home, we all started playing games like "Cards Against Humanity" and the like. The kids kept trying to "embarrass" their Mom by seeing how far they could push it, so it ended up running with a lot of penis jokes (3 sons and me, she was outnumbered).

One year for Christmas one of them gave her a baseball cap that had a huge penis sticking out of the front of it. She turned it into the "award" for whomever was winning the games. Person that won the last round has to wear the penis hat. If its a board game, you have wear it during your turn.

Makes for some interesting looks when girlfriends or neighbors drop by in the middle of family game night.

The more poop jokes the better. Life's too short to pass up a laugh.

Poop jokes are as old as the human race and truly crosses all ethnic and culturally boundaries.
It is sort of funny that the natural bodily functions are looked upon with such distaste by North Americans. Most of the rest of the world (with a few exceptions of culture or religion) think nothing of it and don't share NA's abhorrence of the topic.

Just like poop. North Americans are still awfully repressed. Not as badly as fifty years ago but change comes slowly.

It is funny when I do it, slightly amusing when the wife does it and disgusting when my mother does it.

I know I'm responding to an old post form a necro'd thread, but this reminded me of a work story.

My boss and I were having a meeting with a German coworker who was visiting a few years back. Being the mature adults that we are, both my boss and i were making frequent poop jokes, and everyone was laughing along. Eventually my boss had to leave his office for a few minutes and the German turned to me for this exchange:

"Vwat ist poop?"
"Oh, uhhhh... scheisse."
"Ohhhhhhh" (roaring laughter as all of the jokes made sense at once)

I still chuckle when I think of him innocently asking "what is poop?" with a heavy German accent.
