New tail lights or spoiler?

If I was going to only update one or the other, which do you feel would add the more visual appeal to my 2013 10 Series FR-S, Valenti tail lights or add the factory rear deck spoiler?

8RZ 03-18-2019 04:46 PM

Tails, OEM look so dated to me.

DarkPira7e 03-18-2019 05:20 PM

Opposite, get the Nur-spec spoiler! Stock tails are mean looking.

If you have a totally empty trunk, I think the normal trunk lid spoiler is great. The Scion/Toyota one though, not the Subaru one ;)

Tails. I hate the stock chrome look. Reminds me of the early fast and the furious car scene and chrome civic lights.

If you haven't seen yet, an inexpensive alternative to the Valenti is VLAND lights, they look similar to the 2017+ lights but have some minor differences at night time with output:

Gives a nice, subtle stock-but-not appearance. I got mine for $218 (my car below)

I bought a ebay, pre-painted TRD style rear spoiler for $140, and it fit great. I just used my own 3M tape instead of the supplied.

I say spoiler. A decent spoiler will add visual length and lines to the car. Tail lights just look good from the rear.
I have the stock Scion spoiler and all the cars I see without it look strangely short to me.

Tail lights and third brake light

A spoiler visually raises the rear of the vehicle and gives it more of a wedge or doorstop shape from a side profile. The trunk lid without a spoiler looks a little too droopy IMHO.

Thank you for all of your inputs so far. Like me, the posts have been about 50-50. I'm still on the fence about which I'll do, but there's a chance I will end up having done both at some point in time.

New tail lights or spoiler?

My vote is to do both but tails first. The OEMs are unbearable. The chrome crap belongs on a teenage girl’s car that still thinks “Alteza” lights are cool. I sprayed mine red and it looks WAY better.

HaXx 03-20-2019 08:26 AM

If ur not aware, the OEM spoiler needs trunk holes. Must people are dying to get a trunk without holes so they can mount a traditional spoiler. I say tail lights, and get a traditional spoiler. Google frs trunk holes and ull see.

Celica00 03-20-2019 02:14 PM

I don't get the hate/displeasure of the OEM tails. They look sexy as hell to me. But then again, the complaint is they look dated, which is fair.

Go spoiler

Stock tails are easily fixed if you don't like the chrome look, go spoiler.

That looks nice. Any details on what you did there? I’m guessing to pulled the lens off and sprayed the inside?

That, or Depo makes a pair of smoked OEM-style tails.

It's a great look, I do like the stock round LED lights.

New model OEM tails and a OEM wing on dram's risers.

That's what my duck bill is hiding! I vote a non-oem spoiler simply for variety, and the potential to not have to drill holes.

eastendraceshop 03-20-2019 07:45 PM

I would get a paint matched duckbill spoiler! The 10-series paint looks so nice!

^^^

The 17+ OEM tails are one of the things that drew me in. Vlad has aftermarket reps, but I can't speak for the quality.

I like the 18+ factory spoiler option on tech/GT package cars. I ended up with a TRD spoiler since the 17 86 didn't make them yet.
