Is this a decent deal for used salvage-title 2014 BRZ?

Hey all,

Was browsing Craigslist when I found an offer for $9,500 on a 2014 BRZ with salvage title (damage on right side passenger quarter panel), 72000 miles on the odometer, limited. It piqued my interest so I went to check out the car and I didn't notice any major cosmetic damage. Took the car out to the shop and they didn't find any major issues with the frame or suspension either. Do you guys think that this is a good or pretty standard deal? Really just want to hear your guys' opinions. Sorry for the lackluster post.

Thanks guys.

With out pics it's hard to say it's worth 9.5k.
Seeing that if you shop around more you'll find clean title ones for the same price and mileage.
Keep on searching, it's a hard pass in my book.

Unless they want to drop 2k off then it's reasonable

72k miles on a salvage at 9500..... just think on that

Why was it totalled in the first place?
That's really only about $1-2k less than 2013's with clean titles are starting to go for...

Check with your insurance carrier first. Some won't cover branded title vehicles.

Resale will suffer when it's your turn to flip.

Plus its Craigslist that's become a den of thieves.

Not at all. If you want a deal I can get you a salvage BRZ 6mt with under 36k on it for $7800. Spend $1200 on paint work and you’ll have a MUCH better car you know was fixed correctly for $9k.

is perpetually-lower vehicle valuations, difficulty if you ever want to sell, and difficulty in insurance coverage worth saving $3k for you? because it's not for me.

If looking for a track toy with occasional street use that you are going to srip down and mod then go for the salvage.
For a DD street car pay the little more and get a clean titled one. It was written off originally for a reason and a quick inspection may not show that reason well.

“It was just a scratch down the door, he showed me pictures”

Cars get totaled for a reason. Ditto what everyone said. Trailered track toy with no plates? Why not get a salvage title. Street car with your family/friends/kid in the car? Better to get something with a clean carfax.

yep. it varies from state to state, but total loss is somewhere around 70% of the cars value. and until the 86's start getting valued at $5k, there's a healthy margin for serious mechanical or alignment problems.

Last year I got rear ended at 50-60mph. I own a MY13 with 140k miles at time of crash. It did $12,800 in damage. My car still has a clean title. And this is with the same car when I rear ended someone 3 months after getting it in 2012 and doing $14k in damages.

So think about what it would actually take to total a car out.
