Thanks I agree it wouldn’t bother me as much if it was one gear. But it is every gear all the time. As for shifting Im smooth and light on my grip as I’ve driven stick for decades and rid my self of those bad habits.

It’s hard to tell but the it’s not really a squeak but when the clutch disengages there is thud and what I can disceibe as a weighted force that goes back and forth you can actually see the shifter move in succession with the force. The shifter vibrates all over the place under normal driving. Especially over 3500-4000 all the way up the line.

Don’t get me wrong shifters vibrate and make a little noise but this is execessive. Another service director even said so. They won’t let him even look into it because that FSA sent it up the chain blocked me at other dealerships.

I did to go to Subaru although they can’t officialy say anything because of branding. They agree it’s not normal and they never had anyone bring it in because of that.

Here is another vid of the thudding clutch noise when depressing the clutch peddle. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VpxQwzcUu8[/ame]

Will the sound change if you hold the shifter into the gate with your hand?
Will it have the noise if you put it in between gears and cost at speed?

My car used to do that and quit on it's own, no changes made. If I just touched the shifter it would stop. Then go right back to it when I let up.

If I touch it it still vibarates and rattles very loud.

SINCE THERE IS NO CHANGE IN THE SOUND when held or deflected, then it is doubtful that it is in the shifter linkage. The fault will probably be in the trans or drive train.

Could something that is off balance sending the vibration through the input shaft cause it?

I'm going to ring up ol @Ultramaroon to have a listen to your videos and see if he has any ideas. He's pretty good at messing up - errrr, I mean messing with this transmission.

@Zentec your car sounds good

rattle from the factory is normal! Quality!

I personally think shifter rattle and clacking while pressing the clutch in is from play in the throw out bearing. The constant-contact bearing goes out of tolerance and starts throwing vibrations at certain RPM. My guess.

100% normal driveline lash.

Aha! Someone was finally able to capture that damn sound! Mine does it once or twice a year on the hottest days. It's the return spring inside the clutch master cylinder. It's a horrible frightening sound but completely innocuous.

2nd gear is notorious in our transmissions (manual ones anyway). My buddies S2000, who's transmission ours is initially based on, has horrible issues with 2nd gear and it's constantly slipping out of gear. He changed transmission fluids to Pentosin and seemed to clear up most of the issues.

Why is everyone so anti rattle?
