Wide Body Kits
Wide body kit for the 2013 FRS or no? And if so what’s the best deal out there for the look you get. I am wrapping my car after I decide wether to go wide body or to stay stock body, so would just like some advice on the decision.

If you're asking people if you should do it or not do it I would suggest you to not do it. Resale value is down the shitter since you cut up your shit, a lot of "old heads" dislike the look. The kits you got out there is, Rocket bunny (3 different versions), Rallybacker (2 versions) Aimgain(4 different types) , Varis and the new Karma kit. I would personally go with Rallybacker because it looks the best. But it's all up to you since it's you who are going to use it.
If you're going to keep the car for awhile and dont care about the resale value go for it. If not then don't do it since you can't go back. |
Stay stock body. Unless you have a ton of money to buy a proper fitting kit and make it a perfect install with proper paint.... most of them just turn out looking like hackjobs.
Also, if you're going widebody.... do proper fitting wheels. Spacers and cheap wheels just add to the hackjob effect. Also, why do you NEED wide body? Have you hit the point in your driving skill that you need more tire? |
Well I think if he's going to get it wrapped after then it wouldn't look like a hack job, granted you would have to keep getting it wrapped or eventually painted. But wraps are pretty good now. You would still however have to find a quality body shop (unless you're comfortable in your own skills) to have it done correctly, as a lot of these kits have some warping and fitment issues.
BUT, with that said it IS a 2013 and I imagine if you go wide body and get it wrapped, etc. you plan on keeping it for another few years at which point who cares about the value (not that it'll be worthless) but I don't think worrying about the value of a 10 year old FRS should be your limiting factor. And then ask yourself if it's going to be your toy just for fun and working on or a show car. Because if it's just gonna be for fun then who cares if the body kit isn't lined up to the millimetre? If you do it yourself it may have some flaws sure but if they're minor they'll really only be noticeable to you. Bottom line if you want it wide make it wide if you have the means. Your car do what YOU want! |
Spend money on tires and autox races.

I wouldn't go widebody unless I have something in the engine like a turbo/supercharger or engine swap.

I personally am not a fan of wide body look as it always appears to ME that people are trying to make the car look like something it isn't. It makes sense if you have modified the power to a point where you need those big tires but I am afraid that the majority of wide body cars I have seen are pretty much stock. Makes no sense to ME at all when people go wide body and then throw so much camber on their massive wheels that only 2" of tire is actually touching the ground. That said I will pay grudging respect to those that do the task well. It is not something that you can cheap out on or take shortcuts since it will look exactly like you cheaped out and took short cuts. I physically laugh when I see a wide body car with spacers trying to make small wheels look big. If this is something you really want to do then research the quality kits and the other required mods to go with them, save up the money to buy that quality, find somebody that know how to do it properly and THEN go for it. Do it right. Do it once. There are a pile of horrendous looking body kits on all makes and models of cars out there where people just did not want to wait and do a proper job. |
Buy authentic kits - it's more than worth it for the fitment and smooth surface, meaning you'll have a MUCH nicer paint finish, or even wrap finish in your case.

if you do plan to go the route of a widebody kit plan to dump 10-15k into the car, people will see this number and think its insane but that is an honest number of what it takes to get a stock car to that level looking decent.
aside from the kit you will need coilovers and arms so that's 1200-2000, wheels well say around 3k, paint or a wrap another 3-5k and whatever installation costs if you're not doing it yourself. |
If you want to go wide on your 2013 FRS, you’re better off selling your car and purchasing an 86 that’s already been given the treatment.
https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/c...835411466.html An example of a proper Aimgain kitted FRS for 15k (the amount you would have to pay to get the job done right on your current vehicle). |

Actually this is a great idea wow. You could buy a widebody frs/brz and spend the of money you would save on additional mods and still get it wrapped. |

The kit was designed to not show any rivets. But seems like the owner had specced wheels that would rub against the front fender extensions, hence why he took it off. |
