Thumping Sound After J02 Recall

Dropped my 2013 FR-S off at Toyota of Downtown Los Angeles for the J02 valve spring recall. My car had zero issues before service. After I picked it up I noticed a really annoying low-pitch thumping/vibratory sound (frequency about 10 times a second) when accelerating. Particularly, the sound is strongest when accelerating at low rpm until about 4k rpm, at which point the high revs drown out the thumping sound. The sound does not happen when downshifting, braking, or cruising; it happens only when accelerating at a moderate to fast pace. Accelerating at a higher speed (e.g., above 40 mph) in 5th or 6th gear amplifies the sound. Vehicle performance seems to be unaffected.

My car is literally a "clunker" now and I'm pissed. :mad0260:

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

I just dropped it off at the same dealer for them to take a look but I'm getting the impression that they will deny responsibility or even deny there is anything wrong with the car since it still runs.

Well, that's a shame - :(

Hopefully they will be able to sort it out and fix it.

Oh, BTW, in the future, you may wish to look around the forum for a thread that would fit your situation before starting a new one - ;)

What's wrong? The recall work harmed your car. Take look at the other posts around here lately!

But please let us know what the dealer finds out...hopefully not serious!

Did Toyota actually sent their technicians to be trained by Subaru for working on boxer engines? A few pages of instructions to even a master mechanic who never worked on boxers is just a recipe for disaster.:bonk:

Any video? May be a leak at the header, which typically has a droney, almost ticking noise only apparent on accel

I would be sure you are prepare for your engine to fail. Keep your cell phone charged remember in the back of your head your car could blow its lid. Stay safe and good luck

Jfc, right off the deep end. Maybe it's a loose heat shield, lol.

That description makes me think it's the front pipe rubbing on the subframe.
