Used FR-S with SC
1 Attachment(s)
Hey there,
Prospective FR- S owner here. I have a unique mission, should you choose to accept it. I have been looking for a white MT FR-S and Michaels Toyota in Seattle has a 2015 with 41k miles reserved for me to drive Saturday. The catch? It's got a Vortech supercharger, headers, and straight pipes. I'd love a SC and am willing to pay most of the extra that they are marking this one up. 1. First off, anybody recognize this car that could give some history? It's a recent local trade in. 2. Secondly, is it crazy of me to buy a FR-S with a SC and 41k miles? Seems like it could be a ticking time bomb. The dealer says they don't have records of who did the work or when but “it looks professionally done.” 3. Finally, anybody want to come with me Saturday? I know some about cars but little about SCs in FR-S and I would love to have someone with me who does know. I'll pay you $40 for your time and expertise. Thanks in advance, Mike |
I do not know of the car but while all the SC stuff is expensive and neat that should work towards your advantage cause it is not stock and the dealer does not know who did the work and how badly the car may have been abused....proceed with caution. I am not saying do not get it I am saying continue to find out anything you can about it and the type of SC and other stuff but I would think you can say it devalues the reliability of the car and work the price down. Best of luck

Always buy a car as stock as possible unless you know the history.

buy me a plane ticket and I will help inspect it :)

Let's face it the dealer might have a hard time selling a car that's modded. You could probably get a deal.
|
Compression and leakdown test. Look for odd tire wear, and ask if they know how it is tuned, because you're going to need access to that tuning platform immediately. If they want to sell it badly, they'll find someone to do the tests. Pass if not, unless you want to budget to replace the engine as a contingency

Hit up Bob Watanabe at Drift Office in Auburn. If it's one of the cars he tuned, he'd probably know the history.

Honestly, I was really surprised that a major dealership would even take on such a modded car. The more unique the car, the longer it will sit in inventory. And the less they can back it up mechanically. These suggestions are great, guys. I really appreciate it. The tuning question was my next thought, too. There's just so many variables when you don't start with a stock car. I will check with Bob at Drift Office, just to be sure. I will probably have follow up questions, even as I keep looking for other candidates. Thanks for the help and have a good night. Have a great night. |
What’s the asking price? If your not to stuck on getting white. I know @thehapaone is selling his for a good deal. Not boosted tho.
|
Since I broke my foot and need surgery, I'd consider selling mine and I did all the work to mine so I can give you all the history.
|
If you are interested in a boosted car.. i could be talked into selling mine. ALl the work done by Max Holenhoe and tuned by Vit. 2015, only got 31k miles on it 7k miles boosted. Got all the supporting mods. Hit me up.
