Empower Auto 2013 FR-S

Hey guys, I figured I would share my car with the community here. My plan over the next while doesn't involve nearly the amount of modification that others have planned however I do have some things in the works.

My quick background: I live in SK Canada and work in the car industry currently at Performance Plus distributors in Saskatoon. I've been around cars for 10 years as a hobbyist. Some of my recent cars include in no order a Nismo R32 Skyline GTR, 300ZX Twin Turbo 2+2, 5th gen Honda Prelude, Mazda 3 GT and a slew of other daily drivers. My project as of late has been a very highly modified 1994 Toyota Soarer GT-T that I imported back in 2009.

Anyways, back to the FR-S - it was ordered middle of June and I picked it up July 28th. As of the time of this post I am still in the break-in period - but enjoying the car tremendously.

I'll post up some initial thoughts later.

I already have a Perrin crank pulley sitting at my desk at home. It'll go on after another ~500km or so.

Plans are to get this car set up to around the 200whp mark. It's my daily driver so I don't have any immediate grand ambitions for modification... that's what I have the Soarer for.

For anyone curious, here's a shot of the Soarer last year at a small show and shine. This was before I started going to town modifying it.

Anyone who can identify the wheels gets +100 internets.

I need to get some new images up. Anyways, small update:

The car now has 1500 miles and I did my first oil change. The car burned next to 0 oil in the interval and the oil came out looking nice.

I replaced the filter with a Cusco Sports magnetic filter. Though the "break-in" period is about done - I know this car is still breaking in and I like the peace of mind of keeping any metal bits out of circulation.

For oil I opted for Redline 0W20. It's a very high quality ester-based formula and the weather gets VERY cold here in the winter so it seemed the logical choice. 5.5L of oil went in. The car gets driven and I do a slight over-fill just as a safety.

The last thing I did was bolt on the new Perrin light-weight crank pulley. It's really the easiest mod I have ever done.

The stock intake comes off in minutes. The tensioner and belt are a breeze. I had the new pulley on within 5 minutes. The car idles noticeably better and revs more freely. Definitely feels like somebody took 100lbs off of the car.

Parked at a buddies garage. S14 Silvia drift car next to the FR-S. In the garage is a crazy X81 build.

I did a 1500 mile period. No launches, no clutch kicks, no heavy braking and revs were kept under 4000 until 1200 miles.

Throttle input and RPM were varied as well. No constant rpm for a long time or cruise control.

That Soarer... is awesome!

I'm sitting in my car the past couple weeks asking .. "Why does this stereo sound like crap? Where's the range?"

Naturally - they left it in "tC" mode. I changed it and it made a world of difference.

You have a tin ear if you think tC mode sounds good.

Thanks that's good to know, that's about 2000km, not bad not bad.

I'm doing optiguard soon, should I take out all the emblems and then optiguard the body and then put the new GT86 and toyota emblems on? What do you guys think?

For how easy it is - might as well. In the end it won't make a lot of difference.
