front bumper view camera
 

is this a common thing yet? i want to have a camera in the front of the car for when i am pulling into a parking spot and dont want to hit anything. i have seen this on luxury cars but wondering if it has trickled down to regular cars yet?

No it has not. We still have to rely on binocular vision to give us depth perception and spatial awareness. The day when we all need a camera to park our our cars will be a sad day indeed. Just buy a Ford or a Prius and let it park itself for you.

You could get you some curb feelers.

I took a few minutes, and parked nose in to a curb, and looked at where the curb was in relation the the side view mirror. Now I have a gauge to use when parking.

How about learning to reverse into a parking spot? Easier to gauge where the rear ends (plus the back up camera), and it's safer too (easier to see if pedestrians are crossing in front of you when you're pulling out of the spot). I gotten so used to it that I can park better/more straight when I reverse into a spot than when I drive forward into one.

I have found that if, when pulling up to a parking stop, if I leave about twice the distance I think will be ok, everything will be fine - :thumbsup:

Mud flaps actually help for this (parallel parking at least), the stiff ones like Rokblokz/Gorilla at least make a good bit of noise. I've felt out a couple curbs with mine. Rally Armor might not be stiff enough. If you have wider wheels/spacers or anything so that the wheels are flush or poking out they might not be much help with this.




Yeah I back in just about everywhere, backup camera has spoiled me (also the back end is much higher off the ground than the front lip so I'm less likely to smash it into a curb if I get careless). The only place I normally park front-in is my driveway at home.

have you not scraped your front bumper enough on curbs to know where the front end is already? because i have.

Scraped the bumper once (before I had the lip installed). I've only parked front-in to a curb once since then, when there were signs posted saying backing in wasn't allowed, and I left at least 2 feet in front of me that time. Car is small enough there's generally no need to get particularly close to the curb.

Backing in good! You should never back out!!!!!!

I am also a huge advocate of backing into spots. When I must pull in nose first, I feel I did a great job if the front of the car is 2 feet from the curb / tire stop....
I was wondering how you were thinking of accessing the front camera image if installed so it would be quick / easy to access when parking while moving forward. Assuming you also want to utilize a back up camera ?

You don't need a camera just learn to fell the car where it begins and where it ends.
You can buy cheap cones and wooden sticks from Walmart and place them in front of your car.
