Just picked up some new VLANDS, I have a couple questions?

I have a 2018 Toyota GT86.
The stock light is already white, so do I need to buy these HID lights that everyone is using in their install videos ?cause dont '13-16' stock frs' have those stock orange yellowish lights right? If so, what is the recommended type? I read that 5000k H7 or something like that are recommended to match the boomerang light but I'm not sure how all of this works lol.

Since I have a 2018 toyota 86, is it just as easy as plug and play?all these install videos are like on older13'-16' frs' and brzs. And are using all of these 6 pin or 8 pin adapters and they're all doing stuff differently or arent very clear so I get extremely confused. I am a complete moron when it comes to splicing/ wiring stuff. My goal is to just have the boomerangs to be on at all times even when I have the headlights, / high beams on etc.

So here are my dumb questions :

What's a ground wire and do I have to do anything with it?

What pin adapter do I use in my case? The 6 pin or 8 pin adapter?Do i even need to use the ones they provided to me with the headlights?(i got 4 of them)

Do I need to splice/ connect any wires at all? If so, are T-Connectors recommended? Will I need extra wires so I can go buy some if needed? I've never spliced anything before, so what do I need to go buy for this process?

Anyone have or know where I can find instructions with step by step pictures for a 2018 86 version? If it's the same as the frs, I wanna know why everyone is doing and wiring everything differently

I was gonna have a shop do this for me but they said they were gonna charge over $100 , and I was like eff that I rather just do it myself lol. I just dont want to screw up!

Thanks everyone!

Ill give you my 2 cent... keep the stock headlights they are great and they are LEDs. Since they are OEM im sure they have better output than any aftermarket headlights. Instead just replace the stock taillights.

+1

HIDs are from a time when LEDs were not available/too expensive.
2017 and newer BRZ/86 have LEDs as standard.

To me both have great output I have no complaints with the BRZ HIDs either. I would like to switch to 2017+ models BRZ LEDs, but i am too lazy to do swap maybe someday.

Alright I guess I'll stick to the stock LED light bulbs for the lighting portion of my post. Now does anyone know if I still have to do any wiring?

You can't just pull the LED light out of the 2017+ headlights. They are part of the housing.

Everyone means you should keep the 2017+ headlights on your car. There's a reason they cost $1000 each from the factory, and you won't find a good pair for under $700 used.

The factory headlights practically the best lights around for the car. Far better than VLANDs or most other headlights. The only aftermarket headlight that comes anywhere close are the Valenti Jewel headlights, and those aren't cheap either

Nah I spent about $400 on these bad boys and these stock led lights are nothing compared to the vlands.

If you just want a better looking front end you could always do upgraded yellow fogs. i think it's a good look

In your position, if I were set on changing the headlights (which is something I did consider at one point and dismissed since the '17+ headlights are already great, as others have pointed out) and similarly had zero relevant experience (which is true) I would just take it to the shop to get done. It's worth a couple hundred bucks to me to know that when my front bumper gets taken off, headlights swapped out and custom wiring done and everything put back together it's all gonna work properly.

the truth is that you're not paying for the work to be done right. you're paying for the work to be done. you're paying for the legal recourse that if it's not done right, or fails in the future, you have someone to go to to fix it.
