Leaf buildup behind front wheels

Friendly reminder to clean up the spot right behind the front wheels. I noticed a few leaves hanging out from the back of the fender and decided to open it up to clean out what I thought would just be a few leaves. Didn't realize there would be so much stuffed in there.

The driver side was what had the huge buildup, while the passenger side had next to nothing. Are there any ways to prevent this buildup with like a block off panel or something to that effect?

I'd love to garage the car but that isn't exactly feasible in my current situation, curious to see if anyone had come up any solutions. Probably simpler just to clean out every year or so.

I had a similar buildup of stuff in the same spot behind the back wheels at one point, haven't checked recently though I haven't been parking under the tree I think most of the crap came from much lately.

Good info. Thanks

Most of that leaf litter is washed down into there through the opening around the driver side windshield wiper arm. I filled that space with some large open cell foam that is used in eve troughs to stop leaf litter that blocks the water from draining. Since then I haven’t had any problems.

I was under the impression that this space is open to allow air to escape under high pressure conditions (the hood flexing at 75MPH on the interstate isnt't because it has boogie fever)

Ah sorry, I thought you blocked the big part off, and the edges where they have the flexible rubber...things at the base. looks neat!

Base of the windscreen is a high pressure area, so air would be pulled in...and drag any debris along with it.
