Knock/rattle?

Hey guys. 2014 brz with just under 50k miles. Noticed a rattle today after I had red lined in 3rd gear trying to pass someone
Rattling only happens at 3.5-5k rpm. Both when stationary in neutral and while moving. No codes being thrown, no oil burning. No TOB noise either. No vibration or shaking of the car when driving, just the noise itself. I'll see if I can post a clip of the noise. Any possible ideas as to what it could be would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Welcome -

Where does it sound liked the rattle is coming from?

Do you have a front license plate relocate kit? I discovered that the license plate hits my bumper and rattles when accelerating hard.

It sounds to be coming from the dead center of the engine bay. No license plate kit or anything on the car that could rattle. I plan on getting it off the ground today after work to see if something on the underside is loose.

Good plan. The usual suspects are lose heat shields or lose under panels.

Update: changed oil. Metal shaving found. Not tons but the few that I did find were sizeable. If this helps with any diagnostics that wild be great.

Spun bearing or something equally catastrophic. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.

I'm a bad one to ask because I keep my machines for life. I would rebuild without skipping a beat.

...but I respect the struggle. Tough call.

Broke college student. I'd have to talk to the bank and refinance to get the repairs covered. Assuming it's at LEAST $2500.
How much could I sell this for as is?

I suck at that question. No idea. I'm sure a lot of experts will happily answer in no time.

Oh, my - :(

It's not unusual to find metal particles on the magnetic drain plug. However, large ones are not a good sign. Could you post a picture of the metal particles?

What magnetic drain plug? From the engine? No such animal. Not stock. Nor does it have an iron block.

Does the car have stock header? I noticed with most aftermarket headers there can be several bolts in a tight spot where would rattle under hard accelerated/spirted driving. Do you know anyone who has a oft tablet near you. If it's knocking a log would detect it.
