Wasn't sure where to put this or if it has even been posted on the sight somewhere. I just saw this today. Not even interested in the story just the pic. I'll just leave this here.

DUDE!
That is the render that they have used to say the MR2 is coming, that the 86 is done and now that it is based on some bullshit they made up.

Here it is back in November when they said the model was being upgraded based entirely upon their own speculation.
https://www.motor1.com/news/274827/t...-lineup-rumor/

Here is what they said it would look like last June

Any wingnut with a graphics program an render a car. It does not mean it is coming from Toyota.

People, just last week all these sites were reporting the end of the 86 and now all of a sudden they all have insider info on the new design?

I can not believe people fall for this shit.

You are welcome on my lawn anytime.
It isn't Dadillac I am calling out here it is the bloody fiction writers at Motor 1.
One of the worst of the clickbaits takes the statement that the 86 is not being killed, adds a whole bunch of speculation to that statement but presents it as fact then dusts off an old home made render and says it is new. Now 10 other sites will jump on that, add their own speculative bullshit and people will believe it. I bet we have 5 more threads based on this render before the week is out.

Oh and if they built the car as described it would be an 86 in name only since there would be very little left of the original.

You guys knock yourself out over this fiction if you want but I will wait until the Toyota press release or an actual concept to pop up before I believe a thing.

I want them to continue as long as possible so our OEM parts stream remains intact!

You'll be waiting until hell freezes over before you make money on a "collector" car. Invest the money wisely.

This quote from Tada to R&T makes it sound like the 86 has a solid future; otherwise their would be no concern of manual (especially the 4cylinder) Supra poaching the 86 market. I haven’t seen this discussed much, especially with all the recent fake news flowing out over the last week or so:

Tada explained that the potential for a manual Supra is complicated by the positioning of the 86, which, of course, offers a stick shift. "I don't want to sound too business-y, but I also need to support the 86. Looking at the role of the 86 and the role of the Supra, I want to differentiate, make sure they each have their own identity," he said. "If the Supra had a manual transmission, there's nowhere for the 86 to go."

The sites loved that statement. Now the same sites are going completely against it in saying that the 86 will be made more powerful with a new platform to support that power? Isn't that now taking it into Supra territory? If we believe the Tada "quote" then the 86 will not be bumped up to Supra levels for the same reasons they didn't want to bring the Supra down to the 86. People screamed at a $50K Supra and they will faint at a $45K 86.

Must be a fun job these “journalists” have to get paid to write whatever nonsense pops into fheir head that day for the sole purpose of spinning people up.

If Tada’s comments are sincere, I feel the best expectation in a new generation would be a slight increase in power while maintaining a lightweight NA platform. Perhaps a number 240-250hp number for the markets that are not getting either of the 2 4 cylinder Supra models.

Given that there are 2 4 cylinder turbo options in markets with the current 86, it would just seem bizarre for a turbo platform 86 at a similar price point (in those markets). What Subaru is thinking, who knows, it’s such a red-headed step child in their line up, anything is possible.

People screaming at a $50k Supra also just blows my mind. At its highest price, the last gen approached $50K, and that was over 20 years ago when $50K was much more money. Even its $40K price point would be about $65k today. With the trend of the NSX and GT-R, if anything, I’m surprised it came in at 50K and not higher.

But what the hell do I know, I’m just an idiot who is bored and stuck on an airplane streaming my consciousness :bonk:

Is yours parked in a climate controlled building? Have you driven it at all? If you have not stored it away and put any miles on it it is already ruined for collector status by modern standards.
Drive it. Enjoy it. But never think it will be anything but a used car down the road.

The sad part is that their tactics work because they will get loads of clicks and make some cash.
