Car has one of the fenders cut to put on the rocket bunny front fenders and should have blue painters tape.

Make sure to reach out to all authorities in the area and give them the VIN. best of luck ,if I was in the area I'd be looking.

Stolen from inside his shop?

Sketchy... also why no cameras?

Wow glad your car was found! Seriously can't imagine the feeling of possibly losing your car forever man especially one so heavily modified. Would definitely be more careful with who you leave it with and install something like a tracker. Sad to think we still have to worry about people being too lazy to work for their own stuff and being evil enough to steal :sigh

Yes, car was found! Thanks to everyone who helped spread the word.Definitely a stressful day.

Big lessoned learned and I'm installing a tracker asap!

let your insurance know once you install, might be able to get a rate reduction

Wow, congrats to a speedy recovery.

I guess they just wanted a joy-ride.

whats the story here?

eherschend 02-06-2019 10:39 PM

Here is the TLDR:

Car has been at body shop getting worked on (rocket bunny kit is being installed). Wednesday morning shop owner contacts me explaining that shop has been broken in and only thing missing is my car. Rush down there file report and get very sad. Only footage is from the back of the shop and it's not clear enough to make out anything. Post on social media that my car is missing. Lot's of people repost.

Get a message at around 3pm on instagram saying "call my number". I call number and car was spotted on the I5 near fresno on the side of the road. Luckily that dude is a truck driver and spotted the car. He flips around, checks it out and sends me photos. I confirm it's my car. Call police and have CHP tow it to Mendota CA.

I'm not sure why they stole my car or where they were heading but I'm happy and amazed it got resolved so fast(thanks to you guys!). I'm assuming they just wanted to joyride the car because otherwise they would of taken it somewhere closer to strip it.

Next steps is getting the car inspected to make sure everything is in order (shout out to Gary at Elite).

Sounds like a possible inside job. I would switch shops ASAP!

Seems like the car was headed for LA. SoCal is the biggest auto parts launderer in the US. Lots of cars and some parts get exported overseas.

VIP BRZ 02-07-2019 02:32 PM

So odd, i'm really perplexed..

They got your car down off the lift?
They didn't even try and throw the rest of the kit in the trunk before the took off? Easy to sell that.. or other parts in the shop.

And then they park it nicely on the side of the road for you? Not like they were pulled over or anything they just... changed there minds?

I agree, inside job. Somebody who knows the shop owner, has been in the shop before.
Shady to say the least

Glad to see it found, definitely salvageable from a RB install, too!

Just need some fenders it looks like. Great news!

el-guapin 02-08-2019 03:53 PM

There has got to be more to this story!!

candygram4mongo 02-08-2019 04:31 PM

Glad but confused

First, I'm glad the owner got his car back. I expected the car to stripped and never seen again. Karma will catch up with scum that steal.

This whole thing has me intrigued as well. Was the car parked outside? Did they get his key? If the car was in the shop, was anything else stolen from the shop? You would think that there would be just a pile of small, high value items worth stealing (tools, parts, etc.). The whole thing just stinks.

Brink 02-08-2019 04:35 PM

Hopefully the police investigate this thoroughly and figure out what happened here. Definitely seems like something shady is going on at that shop.

eherschend 02-13-2019 12:36 AM

Oh I guess I left some key parts out. Car was parked outside the shop directly in front. The thieves broke into the shop, broke the lockbox, grabbed the keys, and ran away with the car.

Update: Shop had a few smaller things taken but nothing that can't be replaced.

subaru 02-13-2019 12:57 AM

so why did they leave the car on the side of the i5 where it would quickly be spotted / found? Did it break down? Did they run out of gas? Did they know it had been reported stolen / mentioned on forum and decide to ditch it?
Do they drop it somewhere and then a truck comes to get it before it goes to china?

Seems odd they would go to all that trouble to leave it on the side of the i5 ffs. Whoever they are I hope someone puts them and their scum families down for good.

Glad you got it back because when you have done a bunch of mods you are unlikely to get compensated fairly for them, unlike an oem car.
