Supercharger reliability for ~260whp?

Looking at an Edelbrock SC for my Auto 86. As far as I know from reading on countless numbers of threads, I won't really be needing forged internals for 260whp. How true is this? What other additions will I have to purchase besides gauges to supplement my supercharged car?

Also, should I pick up the kit with a tune even if I'm going to a shop to have it installed and tuned by someone? As far as I know, it is best to have a tuner tune the car rather than a tune that comes with the kit.

If I pick up the kit without a tune, I just need an EcuTek cable and a license, right?

So you buy the kit, that's step 1. If you already have a shop and a tuner lined up, you don't need to buy a tune from someone else. If your shop doesn't have a tuner, then you will need a tuner. Delicious Tuning is a popular one for the Edelbrock. Ask your shop about needing an ECUTek license/ kit. They "should" have their own.

I would recommend some sort of oil cooler. Possibly the Jackson Racing dual kit, or a dedicated Air-to-Oil like the Perrin (or any other name brand) if you plan to drive hard. Though if you are daily driving your car (and you're actually in Chicago), I'd say look into the OEM Forester or JR dual radiator/ cooler for the colder winters there.

Otherwise, for 260whp you will be fine on stock internals. Though just because someone will say it, adding forced induction is a risk. So don't expect butterflies and sunshine.

Also... didn't you already ask about this before? Either way, hope this helped.

Thanks. I'm in the city. Which shop installed your turbo? How much did it cost?

Ahh Tony! I go to him all the time for my 86 maintenance and installations. Great guy. I'm also in the group. I'll be interested in seeing what you have for sale soon.

260 is super reliable for our car, stock engine internals won't be stressed, and the OEM clutch is either good till or rated to 350. I'm at 262 dynotuned JRSC with catback nothing else done to the car and its wonderful. Go ahead with it friend. But i say get it installed and dynotuned by a good tune shop, not a shitty e tune, tune it yourself, or any other crap. Get it done right. And you'll thank yourself when its March 2020.

How much a clutch holds is measured in torque, not hp. Stock clutch is good to about 220 lbs-ft.

What breaks the engine is low rpm torque, bad tune, bad heat management or all combined. There are stock engines that handle 300+ whp when tuned right and good heat management. There are also engines failed below 260 whp. That 260 whp as a single number is meaningless.

replace clutch assembly and throwout bearing... those things will for sure fail.

if you get an oil cooler and upgraded radiator with mid 200hp to the wheels the car will run forever.

i put over 40k on a vortech with about that much power and motor was fine. just address the stock cooling system and clutch.

would recommend ACT HDSS kit, 2017 throwout bearing, verus fork/pivot.
csf radiator and jackson oil cooler OR the combo unit. keep the stock fans, the stock fans are amazing, just the stock radiator is a piece of shit.

40k miles, four trackdays, no issues. Just Edelbrock and Delicious tune...no other mods.

How much did they charge for installing a turbo charger?

And that's more than the trans is rated for.

For 260 whp I'd just get the charger, catch can, and CSG or Delicious tune and call it a day. Add an oil cooler if you plan to drive it hard for long periods at a time.
