I thought I said I was using 87. Premium is about 0.60-0.80 more depending on the gas station

I use mobile 1 full synthetic and change it out every 10k miles. Old Oil is clean when I change it out. I use the 5 quart container and after I change it out pour the old oil back in the container it is about 1.5”-2” less than what was in there before. Some might be in the oil filter and some lost in the transfer and some burned.

Do you check your oil between changes? That much missing and only putting in 5qts seems like you run the risk of being low

Silverz 02-05-2019 02:07 PM

That’s about normal and not a lot of oil. We are talking about the top tapered portion of the container.

Car actually takes 5.8qts of oil and missing 1" or 2" of oil is a lot to me.

You could probably save some more money by changing the oil every 20,000 miles. - :iono:

For once can you just give a hard answer. Do you check your oil so you know it's ok, or do you just assume it's fine?

Cuz I really think we are being trolled at this point.

Oil puddles aren't the only way oil can be lost from a car...

If you don't know the other ways then you need to go back to the basics.

And yes, I check my oil level every 1000 miles.

Lies, nothing is a $1 at the $1 store let alone $.75. You'd better have 5 bucks in your pocket or you get nuttin.

Wife and I were in Kingston, ON, less than a year ago. We laughed our butts off when we saw the Dollar store where everything was $1.25. No political commentary felt or intenteded... just funny.

Like Motel 6 and EZ 8 Motel. Tough when you have a price in your name. We had a dumpster company here for years called "$100 Dumpster Rental". Had it plastered on the side of their dumpsters. You would call and they would inform you that was their outdated name, and a dumpster cost a few hundred.

It's kind of a joke here now. The $1 store went to $1.25 then $2.00 and above. Now I see items at $3 - $4!

They sold out...They're carrying all the name brands now. :sigh:

This has happened so many times on this forum in the 6 years I've been here. Always ends with the same original poster asking the question and trying to prove everyone wrong when we tell him/her to use 91 or higher as the savings offset the cost. As well as less engine wear when we prove the IAMs in the tunes can get below 1 at some points.

@Silverz You're really showing you lack of knowledge comparing checking oil to datalogging and calling it a "datalogger". You are quite abnormal

Bottom line is you're taking a performance hit and adding wear to your engine and not listening to the vast majority of people who had this car longer than you. As an avid tune user with some tweaks made to my OFT tunes, I can tell you, the only way to correctly observe knock on a modern car is definitely not by ear or feel, the fact you think you can hear it proves your stupidity. You would have to datalog and watch the ignition advance modifier (IAM), Fine learning knock control (FLKC), and feed back knock control (FBKC). To get an accurate read on anything, a knock sensor is literally mounted to the engine block and is a microphone way more accurate than a human.

A long time ago a user like you called "CatScan" posted a similiar thread and I went through and posted full datalogs of my car testing it on 87, 89, 91 and 93 and posted the logs on datazap.me. I consistently had IAMs below 1 that would run from .7 back up to 1 after each fill up as the car learned at the stock tune and on 87 it stayed around .89-1 depending on how I drove. This proved the car was knocking. How? Because it has to detect the knock before it can adjust, subjecting your engine to knock BEFORE it can adjust is not something you want to do repeatedly. Especially when it keeps knocking and you're not making proper MPG or power.

Also the oil check idea is ridiculous and not a valid comparison and makes you seem like a troll. You realize oil can burn slowly without losing it right? and on this car specifically people have had oil leaks that don't puddle on the ground like the cam seal leak on manuals correct? I sincerely hope you spend your money on something less costly than a sports car if you can't be bothered to check maintenance items like that or to fill up on 91 or higher.

You lack the knowledge to make a good judgement about your vehicle's technology therefore stick to the manual and stop complaining on a forum when others tell you not to do something or suggest that doing something is bad. Otherwise stick to the 87 octane and stop trying to justify it to everyone else.

When they tested in Wisconsin, they found 6 station with wrong fuel. How much you want to bet if they tested all gas stations they will find wrong gas in the storage tanks.

So.... posting a 3 year old article about wrong fuel in a state you don't live in or anyone that responded to you for the most part lives in does what exactly? Say that you MAY get the wrong gas? Stop trying to prove yourself right here lmao

Also learn to quote peoples posts.

Reminds me of when I was 14 and had my own car, back on the farm, my Dad told me I couldn't put "tractor gas" (from our farm fuel tank) in my car because it would turn the carburetor red and the sheriff could tell I was using tax exempt farm gas in a car.

I read that the stuff they make now is good for 100,000 miles so I will need to get it changed in a month or so. I have saved at least $1,000 on oil changes by waiting 4 years.
